January 23, 2022 - St John Bosco's Vision and Novena
St JOHN BOSCO had many prophetic dreams and performed many miracles (including healing) through his beloved MARY HELP OF CHRISTIANS. In 1862, he had a remarkable, mystical dream, a vision of the future of the Church.
I will provide here my own summary of this dream, focusing only on a few points. The church is represented by a fleet of ships which are under attack by the ENEMY. In the midst of a fierce naval battle and a major storm, TWO COLUMNS of great height appear. They are very close to one another. On top of one, there is a STATUE OF THE VIRGIN MARY, with the inscription in Latin AUXILIUM CHRISTIANORUM (HELP OF CHRISTIANS in English); on the other, stands a LARGE HOST (EUCHARIST) with the words: SALUS CREDENTIUM (SALVATION OF THE FAITHFUL). After a long battle, the main ship of the Church (with the Pope on board as leader) is finally anchored to the two large columns, and the Church fleet becomes victorious miraculously. The enemy ships disappear under the waves ...and the sea is calm again...

Choice
Abortion advocates do not want to talk about facts or science, but they love to talk about "choice". They refuse to be called "pro-abortion", but they gladly accept the label, "prochoice".
Indeed, nothing has so clouded and confused the politics of the abortion debate more than the misconstrued application of this word. For years, abortion advocates have sought to bestow upon "choice" a nobility of its own, thereby avoiding discussion of what is being chosen.
The fact is that "choice" is nothing apart from the context to which it is applied. Laws against rape, murder, assault, theft, and drunk driving (to name a few) are all "antichoice". They remove choice in order to protect a more fundamental freedom.
In the final analysis, we are only free to choose so long as that choice does not harm another person. For example, a person cannot choose to rape another person because rape is a violent assault on another human being. And so is abortion.

From Fr Alain: HOW TO RECEIVE COMMUNION PROPERLY
WHEN COMING FORWARD TO RECEIVE HOLY COMMUNION,
PLEASE HAVE YOUR MASK REMOVED OR LOWERED FROM YOUR FACE.
- At that time, the Priest or Deacon will raise and present the Eucharist to you with the words “The Body of Christ.”
- Upon you responding with an “Amen,” the Host will be placed in your hands and you should immediately and reverently consume the Holy Eucharist (Body of Christ) while standing in front of the Priest or Deacon.
- After consuming the Holy Eucharist, you may then step to the side and secure your mask back to your face as you return to your seat.
- I would also ask for parents with young children who are also receiving Communion to please instruct and assist with the understanding and following of these procedures.
Some may see this as slowing the Communion process, but allowing an extra second or two to give each communicant an opportunity to focus on giving the proper reverence to the Holy Eucharist which they are about to consume is well worth it. We should all want this moment for as long as possible!

Mass protocol
- Masks are required inside our church and building for everyone over the age of five. This applies if you are vaccinated or unvaccinated.
- Please maintain 3’ social distance between household families.
- Wash hands frequently and use sanitizer when coming to Church.
- Stay home if you feel ill or vulnerable to Covid transmission.
- We implemented and have regularly adjusted a conservative COVID protocol for OLHOC constantly referencing guidance from CDC, MD state government, Charles County, and Archdiocese of Washington.*

CCD Classes
January 23/24
Since September, CCD classes have continued, both here at the church in face-to-face classes, and online. Several teachers have experienced illnesses, causing us to cancel some face to face classes. Please check your emails and messages weekly to validate that your child will have class in the building. Thank you!

This is the parish sacramental preparation for Confirmation for students (who are in catholic school, public school or homeschooled), parent(s), and mentors, (sponsors are always welcome). At least one parent must attend.
