Second Sunday in Ordinary Time
The Cardinal’s Annual Stewardship Appeal will begin this month. This Appeal supports the mission of our Church to provide for seminarians, retired priests, religious education, needy parishes and numerous ministry offices. Our goal this year has been set at $41,000.00. This goal is determined by looking at our average monthly offertory collection which was $20,514.38 and then multiplied it by two. This is distinct from the Renew+Rebuild fundraiser which is an Archdiocesan capital campaign. For the Renew+Rebuild Campaign our parish pledged $415,000. which will be paid off over five years. If you are being billed for your pledge to the Renew+Rebuild , you will now also be billed for the Cardinal’s Annual Stewardship Appeal. As you were generous before, I ask you to be generous again. As you know, the monies we receive from the Renew+Rebuild Campaign are being used for the repair and protection of our stained glass windows. During last week’s fierce storm, called a Bomb, I went out and inspected our windows with binoculars. It was evident that we have to repair and protect the upper clerestory windows on the south side. The lexon protection was shredded on some of these windows. This shredding of the protective lexon is caused by fiercer winds. (climate change ?) and by the removal of the convent building. The large convent building had protected the church by lessening the force of the winds coming from the south and from the Hudson River.

Second Sunday in Ordinary Time: Both today and next Sunday the Gospel readings describe Jesus calling his disciples. In today’s passage from John, John the Baptist leads two of his disciples to Jesus. Jesus invites them to follow him an they do. Like wise in the first reading, Samuel is called to serve the Lord and he too responds affirmatively. Each one provides an example to us today.
First Reading: 1 Samuel 3:3b-10: Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.
Responsorial Psalm: Psalm;40: “Here am I, Lord; I come to do your will!”
Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 6:13c-15a: Your bodies are members of Christ.
Gospel: John 1:35-42: They saw where he was staying and they stayed with him.
