Unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains just a grain of wheat; but if it dies, it produces much fruit. (Jn. 12: 24)
COVID has changed our lives and our ministries. While we have faith and hope that the way ahead is clearing, we are not going back to something. We are headed for something new. Lent is our liturgical time to reflect on the many ways we are called upon to “die” so that we might also “rise.”
Lent seems to have come upon us quickly . . . a bit like the thief in the night. Let us remember that Lent is not an end in itself but rather a road to Easter. We will truly celebrate Easter only if we do the work of Lent – remembering, reflecting, cleaning, preparing for the feast. Homemakers know that celebrations are a lot of work. They don’t just happen. Next Wednesday, let us commit ourselves to the 40 days of work.
