Hello first grade families!
It is crazy to imagine that we are already underway in our 3rd term here at St. James. I think the days go by faster and faster every day.
We are learning some of the following in our different content areas:
Reading- This week we are talking about nonfiction books and why authors chose to write them. We are reading a book called "Where Does Food Come From?". We are also working on spelling words with the long vowel sound a using ay and ai.
Math- We are continuing working with addition and subtraction together as related facts. We are using addition to check our subtraction to make sure that we are on the right track.
Social Studies- We are currently talking about cultures and customs from around the world. We are also beginning to take a look at the scale on a map and learning how to use that.
In other news:- Thank you to Wyatt and Cooper for bringing snack for us this week. Next week it is Isabelle's turn to bring snack.
- Please return the purple special guest day paper so the kitchen can get an accurate count of how many people will be eating with us that day. Those are due back no later than the 30th of January.
- Catholic schools week kicks off next Sunday with mass at 8 am. Feel free to join us that day.
- Mrs. McBride has placed the theme day dress up ideas in the school newsletter. We are having a superhero theme this year for Catholic Schools Week.
- We are still in need of one parent to help us with the parent reading relay on Wednesday, January 31st at 9:15 am. If you are free that day please let me know!
- Book orders are due no later thank January 30th.
Thank you so much! If you have any questions feel free to get ahold of me at any time.
