Today is Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent. Pope Francis reminds us in his
Message for Lent 2022, "Lent invites us to conversion, to a change in mindset, so that life’s truth and beauty may be found not so much in possessing as in giving, not so much in accumulating as in sowing and sharing goodness."

As we enter our Lenten journey, there are many ways to come closer to God through prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. A special
Rosary for peace in Ukraine will be led by Archbishop Cordileone today, Ash Wednesday, at 1:15 pm.
In addition, parishes throughout the Archdiocese have organized special projects and services for these 40 days. Take a look at the link below to learn about some of the projects, and of course check with your own parish about special Lenten activities.
Father Kenneth Weare, pastor of St. Rita in Fairfax, recently contributed to “Laudato si’ Reader – An Alliance of Care for Our Common Home,” a book published by the Vatican. This collection of articles written by leaders from around the globe includes a preface by Pope Francis and an introduction by Cardinal Peter Turkson.
Father Weare's article focuses on the work being done here in the San Francisco Bay Area. The book can be
downloaded for free in its digital version. (Photo courtesy of Father Kenneth Weare).
Archbishop William E. Lori of Baltimore, chairman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Committee on Pro-Life Activities and Cardinal Timothy M. Dolan of New York, chairman of the Committee for Religious Liberty, issued a statement welcoming the outcome, saying, "We implore Congress to promote policies that recognize the value and human dignity of both mother and child."
