Dear Parent/Guardian:
Below is some important information regarding the celebration of First Holy Communion. If you have any questions, please reach out to me at
sswank@archangelgabrielparish.org.
IMPORTANT INFO REGARDING SEATING: While anyone is most welcome to attend Mass, only immediate family (parents and siblings) can be seated in the same pew with the First Communicant. The seating assignments will be determined using the number of immediate family members you supplied when you selected a Communion date. If you gave an incorrect number (i.e. accidently included other guests in your count), please email the correct number to me immediately.
Please also note:
- First Communicants and their immediate family (parents and siblings – those sitting in the pew with the child) should arrive approximately 10-15 minutes before Mass is scheduled to begin. Please do not arrive more than 30 minutes before Mass as we will not be able to seat you yet.
- When you arrive at the church, an usher will lead each First Communicant along with their immediate family to their assigned pew. Assignments of pews will be done strategically to maximize space usage as our church pews are differing lengths. Additional family members/guests must sit in other pews.
- After your child has been shown your assigned pew, please send them to the back of the church so they can be lined up for the procession.
- Parents and siblings will accompany the First Communicant when they come forward to receive Communion. Please walk/stand approximately one step behind the First Communicant during this time. After the First Communicant receives the Eucharist, his/her parents and older siblings may receive and then the family should return to their pew.
- It is strongly encouraged, due to the pandemic, that the First Communicant receive Holy Communion in the hand. Reception of Holy Communion on the hand or tongue is allowed, at the discretion of the parents. The Precious Blood is not being offered.
- First Communicants will be given a certificate and cross from the parish. You will find these in your assigned pew.
- Mrs. Lynette Castelucci will be photographing the First Holy Communion Masses. You may also take photos during Mass as long as you remain in your pew. When Mass ends, please remain in your pew. The First Communicants will be called forward so Mrs. Castelucci can take a group photo of all of the children. Then, each family may take turns getting photos taken with her.
- Please continue to practice at home so that your child feels comfortable receiving.
