Two Were Bound for Emmaus
Christ is Risen! He is Risen indeed! Happy Easter!
In a recent conversation with a couple of friends, we discussed how we were going to celebrate the Easter Season. I don't know about you, but I hadn't given it much thought. As someone who ministers in the church, I was trying to survive Holy Week. We were discussing how we planned and worked so hard during Lent with our prayer, fasting, and almsgiving that we should be deliberate with our Easter celebration. We have fifty days to celebrate and who doesn't like a great party! So what are your plans for the Easter Season? Take some time today and plan.
To get the ball rolling, we could be like the two disciples in today's gospel who recounted everything that happened to Jesus during Holy Week. There is so much to unpack, and after our parish's Holy Week celebrations, there is even more to recount. Another idea is to continue some of your Lenten practices. You may have established some new habits. Why abandon them? I'm going to check out Via Lucis: The Stations of the Resurrection. In Lent, we pray the Stations of the Cross. There has been a grassroots movement in the church for stations that focus on Jesus' Resurrection.
Our Wednesday Worship song is Two Were Bound for Emmaus by Bob Hurd. The lyrics of this song recount what happened to the two disciples as they encountered the Risen Jesus and then Jesus' encounter with Peter. I love the lyrics that say, "and they knew he was risen in the breaking of bread."
