A Message from Father Rick...
On Sunday May 1st, Marliese Knill—a member of our vestry, and the chair of the Communications Commission—will present to the church what is going on with communications at St Mark’s. Church communications has two objectives: 1) To let YOU know what’s going on around here, and providing resources to help YOU grow in your faith, and 2) to let OTHER people know the great things that are going on around here, and to provide resources to help THEM grow their faith—so that they might even want to join us if they live nearby.
There are the more “conventional” forms of communication—even if we do a lot of them electronically now: like newsletters, prayer groups, and the church calendar. And then there are the more modern forms like social media, the website, the YouTube channel, and the live stream. These modern tools were important five years ago, but they are all the more critical in a post-COVID world.
When people come to St Mark’s for the first time—they almost universally tell us that they have already checked out our webpage, watched some videos, and scrolled through our social media accounts. People tell us all the time that one of the reasons they walked through our doors is because they already like what they see.
Marliese is going to present this on Sunday to the congregation—and I’m writing you you about it here—for two reasons. First, so that you know what we’re doing, and know how to access it. And second, so that you’ll not only use these resources that we’re providing, but that you’ll also share them with others. You’ll never know how sharing a sermon, or a visual reflection on a piece of scripture, or a link to the livestream might touch someone else Whether they are next door, or around the world.
Peace,
Rick
