Dear Parishioners,
Over the past few weeks, I have received many positive comments regarding the new lighting installed in the central dome of the Cathedral. These fixtures provide a significant amount of light in the nave of the Cathedral and, at the same time, highlight the many other areas that now seem very dark. With the central dome installation, we are now proceeding with the lighting plan for the remainder of the Basilica. This will take time as the supply chain is presenting many challenges.
Many thanks to the Friends of the Cathedral Basilica that sponsor our Annual Gala each year. You might also consider becoming a member of the John L. May Society. At present, we have a little over 60 members of our John L. May Society, a group comprised of men and women who have committed to giving $1,000 per year to support the upkeep of the art and architecture of the Cathedral Basilica. This is in addition to over 120 members of the Friends of the Cathedral who also make contributions annually to support the Cathedral Basilica preservation.
If you are interested in becoming a member of the Friends of the Cathedral, or in supporting the Cathedral preservation more strongly, please contact Chrissy Chapo in the rectory office for more information. Also, please mark your calendar for the Cathedral Gala on Saturday, August 20, 2022. This is our largest fundraiser of the year that directly supports the preservation of the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis.
We encounter the disciples on the lake, while everything seemed to be sadly ending, Jesus came close to those seven tired and depressed disciples. Jesus, whom they had not yet recognized, invited them to look elsewhere: "Cast the net on the right side of the boat and you will find some." The seven accepted the invitation and obeyed: the fishing was great and miraculous. It was the advice Jesus had given them at the beginning of their friendship on the shores of that same lake. From those words and that catch they recognized him: "It is the Lord!" And when they reached the shore, they found a fire with bread and fish prepared by Jesus. They were speechless, as when one is overcome by love and tenderness.
Jesus then asks, "Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?" Jesus asked Peter about love. Jesus did not ask him only once about love, but three times: that is, always. Every day the Lord questions us about love. Every day he entrusts us with the care of others. Christ is the one who loved us first and will never abandon us again, even when "another will fasten our belt around us and take us where we do not wish to go." What counts is faithfulness and love, which every Sunday is repeated for us; Jesus' love for his disciples and for each one of us.

This Weekend's Pulpit Announcements
This is the last weekend for our seminarians, Mark Echle and Michael Laugeman, and Deacon Sudeep to be with us at the parish. Next week they prepare for finals and the conclusion of the academic year. Please join me in expressing our gratitude for their service over the past few months to the Cathedral Basilica Parish.
As they prepare to enter their final year before ordination to the priesthood, Mr. Jacob Thomas Braun, Mr. Joshua Stephen Deters, Mr. Ryan Thomas Quarnstrom, and Mr. Jacob Richard Wessel will be ordained as transitional deacons at a ceremony here at the Cathedral Basilica next Saturday, May 6. The Ordination Mass is open to the public. Please see your bulletin for more information.
Next weekend, in honor of Mother’s Day, the Cathedral Pro-Life Ministry will be selling roses to benefit Birthright. Walk-up sales will be available at a table near the front steps of the Cathedral. Please see your bulletins for additional information.
