A note from our Pastor:
On this 3rd Sunday of Easter we are given the account sometimes called ‘The Last Breakfast.’ Once more we see Peter seated at a charcoal fire as he was when he denied Christ 3 times during the events of the Passion. Now, however, he is with his friend. He has just witnessed a miraculous catch of fish occurring at the behest of Jesus. This is now the third time that he has seen the Risen Christ, and it is time that his mind is set at ease concerning his failure. So Jesus asks him three times, ‘Do you love me?’ and Peter answers three times, ‘Lord you know that I love you.’ Jesus tells him, in no uncertain terms, what his purpose is now - ‘Feed my lambs, Tend my sheep, Feed my sheep.’
As members of Christ’s body we share in that mission. Each of us can share in the Psalmists refrain of thanksgiving, ‘I will praise you Lord, for you have rescued me.” We have all experienced Christ’s mercy, as Peter does in today’s Gospel reading. We also have a mission, a calling from Christ. We are called to extol Him and sing His praises, as the Psalmist tells us. We are also called to preach his word, as did the disciples in the first reading. They were persecuted for speaking out, but instead of being discouraged we are told that they rejoiced at suffering dishonor for Christ. May we share in that spirit this Easter Season, and beyond. Rather than take offense at folks who may not share our faith or may practice their faith a bit differently, may we reach out in love to all our brothers and sisters. May we truly tend the sheep of our Father’s flock with the same love and mercy with which Christ treats us. May we show our love for Christ by loving for those he loves.
Peace & God Bless!
