Several months ago, we published the Mass times that were going to take effect on July 1st. At the time we thought this was the best direction but since that time I have had further discussions about expanding our Rooted program and have reevaluated our morning Mass schedule. The Rooted inter-generational program we ran this year is very successful and the plan is to build on this momentum into the future. With that in mind, we must shift the Sunday Mass times to be able to allow for programming growth, this means our Mass times will be 8 am, 10:30 am, and 1 pm in Spanish on Sundays.
This fall we will begin with one session of Rooted with the hope that we can continue to grow and add additional programming opportunities in 2023. This year the Rooted program had over 40 volunteers and we will need to expand our volunteer base to provide more programming.
Usually, I don’t like changing things that I have already published, especially as significant as new Mass times but I didn’t want to start our time as Our Lady of Hope with one Mass schedule and then turn around and change it a few months in because we wanted to add more programming. We have had enough changes in the last couple of years to last a lifetime and once we are through this transition, I want things to be as stable as possible so we can start growing into our new identity. I feel like these Mass times will set us up for the best success moving into the future.
On the topic of our new identity, it has come to my attention that some parishioners were under the impression that since the current Immaculate Conception was chosen as our new parish church no architectural or thematic change would be taking place there. This is not the case. As we become Our Lady of Hope we may need to adjust the look of both the parish church and the chapel. This is why I made such a big deal out of our Rebranding kickoff. I currently have the Rebranding commission working on recommendations for thematic and architectural changes that may have to take place at both locations. We must be truly representative of our whole population now and that has to be felt at all of our locations. To be clear the church at Immaculate and the Adoration chapel planned at Perpetual may not look the same after we are done with this process.
To end on a high note, this year our Annual Catholic Appeal goal is a united effort because for the first time the goal will fall under Our Lady of Hope. Our combined goal is less than that of having two separate goals for each parish. This means that our goal is super attainable, and we should get a big rebate! We plan to use our rebate for a big statue of Our Lady of Hope. This is a worthy cause for our Patroness and a cause of great excitement for me personally. If you haven’t already responded to your ACA letter from the Archbishop, please do so to help get us closer to getting our statue.
