You are invited to Empowering Catholic Citizens, an educational forum on how to influence legislation and policy in California. The event will take place on Friday, May 20 at 7:00 pm at Star of the Sea Parish in San Francisco.
Speakers Molly Sheahan, California Catholic Conference Respect Life associate director, and Lance Christensen, California Policy Center vice president for Education Policy and Government, will share important insights on how to stay engaged on legislative issues. Learn more about how to be an advocate by attending this event.
The California Catholic Conference (CCC) is supporting SB 300, the Sentencing Reform Act of 2021. The law would reduce mandatory sentencing for individuals who did not cause or intend to cause a death during the commission of a felony.
A letter from faith leaders, including the CCC, to Senator Dave Cortese, the bill's sponsor, states, "As faith leaders and activists, we support SB 300, the Sentencing Reform Act of 2021, as a modest legislative correction to help us, as a state, confront a grossly immoral and hopeless segment of our system of justice."
