Today's reflection compliments of Pat Carosello.
Jesus is telling the disciples he is going to have to leave them if they are to stand on their own and spread the Word. But he knows they are scared, sad and unsure of themselves. He reassures them that he is not abandoning them but will send the Advocate, the Holy Spirit.
For a long time I never thought of praying to the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit didn’t seem to get the same hype as God and Jesus. My sister would talk about how when teaching religion the Holy Spirit inspired her many times. There would always be that student who asks the tough questions. The questions that aren’t satisfied by the pat Baltimore Catechism answers. My sister would pray to the Holy Spirit and always found an inspiring answer. I also remember many years ago a homily on Pentecost. Father compared missionaries to the apostles as going out and being able to speak and everyone understood in their language. He said the missionaries who were a lot of times just regular folk would be able to go into remote areas and learn the language fluently. The work of the Holy Spirit. As for myself I have found when I am struggling in finding my way through something that praying to the Holy Spirit gets me to a solution. Obviously Jesus knew what he was doing when he sent us the Advocate. The Holy Spirit was a guide for Jesus so who better to be a guide for us.
Peace and blessings,
Pat
