As we approach the closing weeks of the school year, I can't help but reflect on all that we have accomplished this year. We began the year in masks as we continued to fight the COVID pandemic. We saw the return of open school masses, the Advent Program, and lunches together with other classes. We completed our 5 year accreditation visit, which was very positive and offered some momentum to push forward. We have seen academic successes with our new MTSS program, and we have welcomed new teachers. Like it seemingly is every year, it was a year like no other. Yet, also, a year that ended feeling somewhat familiar, which, after the last couple of year, is a very welcome feeling.
However, the end of the year also brings with it some change. Mrs. Hoasack, Ms. Sammy, and myself will all be moving on after this year. There will be new faces, new programs, and new successes next year. However, Sacred Heart School will still be much the same, because it is you and this community that make the school what it is. That is how the school has sustained through so many changes in the past and why it will continue to thrive moving forward. So, as we wrap up and say goodbye, I also want to say thank you to all of you. Your spirit, dedication, and love for this school and all who pass through is unique in the most special way. So, thank you for giving us the opportunity to have another successfull school year and for allowing us to be a part of your children's lives.

5th Grade Recognition
Our 5th graders are nearing the end of their time here at Sacred Heart School. We will recognize them next Saturday, May 21st at the 4 PM Parish Mass. All are welcome to join us afterward for a short reception in the parish hall with cookies and drinks, where we will recognize each of our 5th graders, show a short video, and give out the Steve Henry Servants Heart Award.
Field Day 2022 at Camp Wood
We will be having field day this Friday, May 20th at Camp Wood. A permission slip went home on Friday that must be returned in order for your child to attend. The students and staff will be taking 2 busses and will be leaving at around 8:15. We will not be waiting for late arrivals, all students must be on time. Lunch will be provided for all students. We will arrive back to school around 2:45.
Please pass on the following information to any Spanish speaking families you know who may be interested in Sacred Heart School!

End-of-the-Year Bowling Fun
In lieu of a dining night for May, we will have a Bowling fundraiser on the last day of School. Beginning at noon, a percentage of all money spent on bowling and at the concessions will be donated back to the school. All you have to do is mention that you are with Sacred Heart School! A great way to end a great year!

Positions Needed for the
2022-2023 School Year
1st Grade Teacher
Sacred Heart School is looking to hire a 1st grade teacher for the 2022-2023 school year. The candidate must be licensed to teach in the state of Kansas, be or willing to be Virtus trained, and be a willing follower and instructor of church teachings. If you know of someone interested, please have them reach out to Mr. O'Neill at doneill@shemporia.org.
Administrative Assistant
Sacred heart School is hiring an Administrative Assistant for the 2022-2023 school year. The candidate should have prior experience, strong organizational and communication skills, be proficient in the use of technology, and be willing to support the mission of the school. If you, or someone you know, is interested in applying, please contact Mr. O'Neill at doneill@shemporia.org.
Enrollment now open for the 2022-2023 School Year!
If you plan on returning next year and you have not re-registered, please do so this week! You simply need to log into your account, select "Complete Family/Student Registration Information for Next Year", and update any of your information that has changed. If nothing has changed then you just click through the pages and you are done. It should only take a couple of minutes!
If you do not have a user name listed on your letter, please email Mr. O'Neill to get a new letter. You can call the school office if you have any questions.
LIBRARY NEWS
Book Swap:
May 18th will be our last library day, and we have planned a Book Swap to promote summer reading! Please have your child bring in a gently used book or two to exchange for another book of their choice. All students will receive at least one book (maybe more!), even if they forget to bring one to swap. Don't be surprised if your student comes home with more than one book, as we have plenty that have been donated over the past year or so. Also, please note that we will make every effort to guide students to books on their reading level, but ultimately, it will be their choice. Finally, the books from the book swap do NOT need to be returned and may be used to swap again in the future. This should be a fun activity for all!
