God the Creator – Part 4
C.S. Lewis said that the miracles Jesus did are instances on a small scale of what God is doing on a large scale. In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth from nothing. In the Gospels the Son of God creates fulfillment from next to nothing.

Jesus didn’t merely satisfy the physical hunger of the 5000. After they were fed, they
said, “This is indeed the prophet who is to come into the world!” That’s close, but not accurate. But we cannot really blame the Jews for saying that. They knew something miraculous, something from God had just happened. They didn’t have a category for Son of God, or God Incarnate. Jesus said and did things that to their understanding were things a prophet said and did. But they knew that a prophet was from God and spoke for God and did miraculous things.

And when they were fed by Jesus they knew it was a godly thing. Certainly, they didn’t forget this. When Jesus died and was resurrected, the Christian faith grew so rapidly partly because there were so many people around who remembered what Jesus did for them. When Jesus taught and preached and healed and miraculously fed the multitudes, He was also at work creating His church.
