Dear Parishioners,
This Monday, we gather to celebrate Memorial Day at our 8 am Mass; we honor those who have given their lives in the service of our country. War should always remind us of the call the Lord gives to us in the Gospel, to be people who work for peace, to be people who work for the right ordering of society, for the ordering of society according to the plan of God, not according to the plan of man.
The only way that there will ever be peace within our world is if all peoples are converted to the message of Jesus Christ - if our hearts and minds are transformed to live our lives according to God’s plan and not our plans. We must constantly propose the truth of the Gospel to the world, inviting them to come to know Jesus Christ. When we honor the dead and those who have gone before us, we, too, remember the tremendous sacrifices they have made. We remember how many of them have been scarred for life, whether physically or emotionally.
On Saturday, May 28th the Cathedral Basilica hosted the Ordination to the Priesthood of two men for the Archdiocese of St. Louis. Please join me in wishing them all the best as they begin the life of priestly ministry. I would ask you as well to pray for them and for all priests.
O Jesus,
I pray for Your faithful and fervent priests;
for Your unfaithful and tepid priests;
for Your priests labouring at home
or abroad in distant mission fields;
for Your tempted priests;
for Your lonely and desolate priest;
for Your young priests;
for Your dying priests;
for the souls of Your priests in purgatory.
But above all I recommend to You the priests dearest to me;
the priest who baptized me;
the priests who absolved me from my sins;
the priests at whose Masses I assisted
and who gave me Your Body and Blood in Holy communion;
the priests who taught and instructed me;
all the priests to whom I am indebted in any other way.
O Jesus, keep them all close to Your heart,
and bless them abundantly in time and in eternity. Amen
Monsignor Henry Breier
This Weekend's Pulpit Announcements
Memorial Day Weekend we will have a special reception following the 8 am, 10 am and 12 Noon Mass to honor and show gratitude to the men and women who served in the Armed Forces as we call to me those who have given their life in service to our country.
On Monday, May 30, the Cathedral Basilica will gather for Mass at 8:00 am in recognition of Memorial Day. This will be the only Mass celebrated here at the Cathedral on Memorial Day.
Mark your calendars for a Parish Picnic on Saturday, June 4, 2022, following the 5:00 pm Mass. The Parish Council is planning a casual evening with hamburgers, hot dogs, brats, and traditional BBQ fare. Feel free to bring your own lawn chair and adult beverages as you enjoy the company of your fellow parishioners.
On Sunday, June 19, Archbishop Mitchell Rozanski will lead the annual Corpus Christi Procession from the front steps of the Cathedral immediately following the 12 noon Mass. All are invited to join this prayerful procession of the Holy Eucharist.
