Almsgiving Box
Your child should have come home with a box - or a template to make a box to collect alms this Lent. Every Lent the children in the elementary program donate money to support our Child Fund child, Igor from Brazil and two children through our Haiti Twinning relationship, Victoria and Fette. We challenge the children to find ways to give alms:
- to earn extra money - chores, bake sales, selling outgrown toys
- donate the money they might have left from their fasting - if they gave up sweets for Lent; maybe the money that your family would have spent on sweets can be donated to help our sponsor children
- If they receive an allowance, maybe they can choose to donate a portion of that over the next few weeks.
- If your family enjoys dinner out, a night of bowling or a movie out once in a while, maybe one time you can stay in and play board games and consider donating the money saved to our sponsorship drive.
The children were told to keep their alms boxes in a prominent place to remind them of their weekly challenges.
If your child was absent or you participate in the at-home program, I have attached a copy of the box template below.
