Happy Sunday,
It is hard for me to believe that this is the last Sunday email that I will be sending as principal here at Sacred Heart School. It has been an honor to serve you all the last 4 years and an experience that will last with me forever. I really didn't know what to expect when I arrived here in a U-Haul with my then fiancé from Los Angeles in the summer of 2018. I had hopes and a lot of zeal and what I found was a community willing to step up to do what it took to make this school great. I also found a community of faith that I had never experienced before, and people excited to welcome me and Megan as if they'd known us their whole life. I guess I am saying we found a home. At that is exactly what we needed.
Now, I certainly didn't expect to be leading the school through a pandemic. In fact, I am not sure that I really knew what a pandemic even was. However, I am glad that I was here with the support of all of you as we navigated our way through that time (it has to be passed, right?). It helped remind me of the simple joys that I took for granted. Seeing the kids smile every morning, watching them interact at recess and lunch, and seeing them learn together in the classroom without 6 feet in between. It also taught me a lot about parenthood. As I spoke with so many of you about your desires to keep the kids healthy while simultaneously needing to see them grow academically and socially, I recognized the love behind every suggestion. It truly was an unforgettable time.
As I prepare to move on, I feel good about the future of this school. I have said it before, but it bears repeating; this school is built on the shoulders of all of you and this amazing community. It will continue to thrive no matter who is in charge as long as you continue to support it. I know that Mrs. Geitz will do an amazing job and will benefit so much from all of your support, just as I have. I am excited to see what path God has designed for the school but know that it will be great.
Thank you for welcoming us. Thank you for making us part of your family. Thank you for letting me be a part of your childrens lives. Most of all, though, thank you for being such amazing examples of God's love. Please know that everything that I did, I did with the goal of helping the students of Sacred Heart grow in their relationship with God. If I accomplished nothing else, I hope I accomplished that. I will keep each and every one of you in my prayers and ask that you do the same for my family.
God Bless,
Mr. O'Neill
