Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
This Sunday we celebrate the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord! Traditionally it is celebrated 40 days after Easter, but in our Diocese and in most Dioceses throughout the country it is celebrated this Sunday. The Ascension always gives us great hope as we trust that where the Lord has gone - we will one day follow. We look forward to seeing everyone for Holy Mass.
I recently received news from the Diocese that Fr. Reese will be transferring to a new assignment. He has served at St. Catherine's and St. Mary's faithfully for the past two years. It is sad to see him go, but I'm also very happy for him. He has been looking forward to once again leading his own parishes. The Bishop has assigned him to two parishes: St. Catherine Parish in Prophetstown, IL and St. Ambrose Parish in Erie, IL. His new assignment begins on June 15th. His last weekend at our parishes will be June 11th and 12th. That weekend Fr. Reese will say farewell at all the masses. Immediately following the 7:30, 9:30, and 11:30 masses on Sunday June 12th we will have donuts and refreshments in the Narthex along with the opportunity to send our best to Fr. Reese.
As Fr. Reese takes on a new assignment, the Diocese is working on filling the vacant role that we will have at St. Catherine's and St. Mary's. The hopes are to have another Associate Priest assigned here by the fall. I will keep everyone informed when I get any news. In the meantime, Fr. Blood, Spiritual Director of St. Edward's will be assisting as needed over the next few months. He is looking forward to helping out and being part of our parishes.
Please keep Fr. Reese, Fr. Blood, and all priests in your prayers.
God's peace to you all,
Fr. John
