136. What does the Church mean when she confesses: “I believe in the Holy Spirit”?
To believe in the Holy Spirit is to profess faith in the Third Person of the Most Holy Trinity who proceeds from the Father and the Son and “is worshipped and glorified with the Father and the Son”. The Spirit is “sent into our hearts” (Galatians 4:6) so that we might receive new life as sons of God.

Prayers for Gaylord and all effected by the recent tornado
Gaylord was hit hard today (May 20)
with a devastating tornado. Our prayerful solidarity is extended to all who have
been affected by the afternoon storm. We are grateful to God that our diocesan
and Cathedral staff came through the storm safely. Staff was sheltering in the
basement as a tornado hit a few hundred yards away. There was no damage to the
Diocesan Pastoral Center nor Cathedral buildings. We are grateful that St. Mary
Cathedral school was also spared. There will be much work to rebuild our
community in the days, weeks and months ahead. Your prayers are appreciated.

Important Announcements:
MASS TIME CHANGE -
After Sunday May 26, 2022 the 7 AM Mass will suspended for the foreseeable future. This is because Fr. Michael will be away for two months and Archbishop Russell is beginning is ministry in Detroit. I understand the difficulty this causes. Please be patient with us as we try to do the best we can to provide pastoral care.
Fr. Michael Lingaur
will be returning this week to Mundelein Seminary in Chicago to finish his studies for an advanced degree in Sacred Theology. He will return to Alpena around the middle of July. Please pray for him as he finishes his studies.
Seminarian Matthew Makarewicz
will be joining us this summer at All Saints for a Seminarian Internship experience in the parish. He will be arriving June 1st and will be with us through the middle part of August. Let us give Matthew a warm welcome when he arrives.
Matthew is the son of Kevin and Tina Makarewicz and was raised in Gaylord, along with one younger brother. He attended school at St. Mary Cathedral School and graduated from high school in 2016.
Growing up, his parents always made the family’s faith a priority. They provided Matthew with an environment to grow up in that was centered in Christ and a place where Matthew could search for his vocation in life. This foundation led Matthew to continue growing in his faith after leaving home and to always be open to God calling him in whatever direction life might take him.
After high school, Matthew attended North Central Michigan College in Petoskey and graduated with an associate degree in 2018. He furthered his studies at Michigan Technological University in Houghton and in 2021, received his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering with a minor in manufacturing.
Outside of school, Matthew enjoys outdoor activities including camping, hiking, fishing, hunting, skiing, and photography. He also values spending time with family and friends.
His time at Michigan Tech provided Matthew with experiences that helped continue to develop his faith. The most important was that of friends to share his faith with. Together they all grew in their relationship with Christ and strived to be open to any calling in life that God might have for them. The thought of going to seminary has been on Matthew’s mind since high school and he felt after graduating college was a natural transition to continue discernment.
Matthew and his family are parishioners at St. Mary Cathedral in Gaylord.
He is currently studying at University of St. Mary of the Lake, Mundelein Seminary near Chicago, Illinois.

Please keep Archbishop Russell in your prayers as he begins his ministry as an Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Detroit in a few short weeks. We will miss his presence here in Alpena.
We want to start by saying thank you! Thank you for the giving of your time and treasure to support our diocese and ultimately our parish and the Catholic values that we hold so dear.
Since the formation of the Diocese of Gaylord in 1971, the Catholic Services Appeal (CSA) has been both an invitation and opportunity to support the programs, services and ministries within our diocese and around the world. Through our collective efforts, the CSA is the primary source of funding for the programs and ministries directed by our bishop, providing support to our parishes as well as most of the special national and international collections typically taken up as second collections in other dioceses.

God is here, right now, at our side. We can see him in the routine moments of our day and in the sacred moments of our lives. To find God, you have only to look.
Every year, parishes are asked to make a just sacrifice through a CSA target that is determined by ordinary income (yearly offertory collections). Any funds received over the parish target are returned to the parish 100% for local needs and good works. This year all the fund received above and beyond are Parish Target will be used to replace the 1952 steam boiler in St. Anne Church of All Saints Parish. The boiler replacement is approximately $55,000.

In the coming weeks you will receive a letter from Bishop Walsh inviting your family to participate in this year's Catholic Service Appeal. You can use the return envelope to make a gift to the Diocese of Gaylord. Gifts can be sent directly to the Diocese of Gaylord
You can also give online. We encourage folks to consider making a reoccurring gift year around.
The Catholic Services Appeal 2022 season is upon us, and we have much to celebrate in northern Michigan. We welcome our new bishop. We begin to enjoy warmer weather, and we honor our risen Lord. We look forward with hope as God continues to work in and through us.
Now is the time to renew our spirits and contemplate our blessings. Now is the ideal moment to recommit our time, talent and treasure to what we value most.
The CSA is a diocesan-wide campaign that supports the mission of the Catholic Church locally, regionally and globally. We are blessed to be part of a Universal Church, unified in the Body of Christ. The work of the Church requires careful stewardship and care. Just like we spend time and resources keeping our bodies healthy, we must do the same to nourish the Body of Christ. The Catholic Services Appeal provides 75% of the Diocese of Gaylord’s annual operational budget and is therefore essential to the work of the Church in northern Michigan.
