Dear Students and Parishioners,

On Tuesday June 7^th, the County of Santa Barbara will be using Baxter Hall here at St. Mark’s as a polling place for the California Primary Election. Mass will still be held at 5:15 PM, but the normal ways of entering or moving through the other parts of the building may be different on that Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday (June 6^th-June 8^th). While the arrangement naturally creates a certain amount of inconvenience, the advantage is that the sum that the County will be paying to use the space for these three days amounts to more than the total collection on an average weekend at the parish. And it is with those added funds that we will be better able to serve all those who come to St. Mark’s not to vote for a politician who works at the capitol, but to encounter the Holy Spirit who dwells and abides in a community of faith.

El martes 7 de junio, el condado de Santa Bárbara utilizará Baxter Hall aquí en San Marcos como lugar de votación para las elecciones primarias de California. La misa aún se llevará a cabo a las 5:15 PM, pero las formas normales de entrar o moverse por las otras partes del edificio pueden ser diferentes ese lunes, martes y miércoles (6 de junio al 8 de junio). Si bien el arreglo naturalmente crea una cierta cantidad de inconveniencias, la ventaja es que la suma que el Condado pagará por usar el espacio durante estos tres días supera la recaudación total en un fin de semana promedio en la parroquia. Y es con esos fondos adicionales que podremos servir mejor a todos aquellos que vienen a San Marcos no para votar por un político que trabaja en el capitolio, sino para encontrarse con el Espíritu Santo que mora y permanece en una comunidad de fe.
