Change in Clergy
Dear Parishioners,
I’d like to share some news about our clergy staffing at St. Bonaventure. Fr. Arturo Cardenas will be moving to become temporary Parochial Administrator of St. Francis of Assisi parish here in Concord on July 16th. He is needed there because the Pastor of
St. Francis of Assisi, Fr. Ismael Gutierrez, will be taking a sabbatical (much needed… good for him!). We will be getting a ‘newly minted’ priest, Fr. Ramon Urbina, to replace Fr. Arturo.
Fr. Urbina was just ordained a priest of our diocese. He is a native of Antioch, CA, and also, by happenstance, is the brother-in-law of Jacob Perry, our Youth Ministry Coordinator. We look forward to welcoming Fr. Ramon to St. Bonaventure on July 1, 2022.
We have all grown to know and love Fr. Arturo. He has been a wonderful priest for us all. We will miss him. We are going to celebrate Fr. Arturo’s farewell on his departure day – July 15, 2020 – with a parish BBQ as we also celebrate the feast day of St. Bonaventure, our patron saint. Please mark your calendar for the festivities here the evening of July 15thas we celebrate our parish feast day and bid a fond farewell to Fr. Arturo!

Beware of Scammers!
Dear Parishioners,
Sadly, some people out there want to take advantage of kind souls like you. They target priests, hack their emails and phones, and send out fake emails and text messages to people asking for help, or for gift cards – all to take advantage of the unsuspecting. If you see an email supposedly from me asking for help or for gift cards, BE SUSPICIOUS! I will only ask for donations officially through the parish communications. Beware of scammers! Thank you.

Invitation to Serve Parish Council
Our Parish Council is entering the discernment process for new members. The purpose of a Parish Council is to help a pastor investigate and consider all matters that relate to pastoral life and to formulate practical decisions for the good of a parish. The Council advises and consults and offers a consensus about pastoral issues.
Years of practice have also clarified two important points: That a Pastor has been delegated by the Bishop to administer the pastoral work of the parish and that the Pastor needs the consultation of others, especially a Council of Advisers to provide wisdom, advice, and practical direction to develop the spirituality and the living of Catholic life in every parish.
The Discernment Process for the Parish Council begins with a self-discerning process followed by an information meeting and final discernment. Registered parishioners are invited to submit their name or that of another registered parishioner for consideration.
Submissions are due June 10 and can be sent to info@stbonaventure.net.
Candidate submissions will be received by the Pastor and Parish Council. Maintaining a diverse membership of the Parish Council is important and will be a primary consideration in the review of candidates invited to an information meeting.

Masses During Bible Camp
8:00am Daily Mass in Chapel During Bible Camp: June 13-17
During Bible Camp, June 13-17, the 9:00am Daily Mass will begin at 8:00am and take place in the chapel. There will not be Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament during Bible Camp. The normal 9am Daily Mass schedule and Adoration will return beginning on June 20.
Bible Camp Opening Mass: June 12, 3:00pm
We will be having a special Bible Camp Opening Mass on Sunday, June 12 at 3:00pm. While this Mass is primarily geared towards teen and adult volunteers, all are welcome to join us.

Knights of Columbus Pancake Breakfast
The St Bonaventure Knights of Columbus are hosting a Pancake Breakfast on June 19, 2022, following the 7:30am and 9am Masses. Treat yourself and your family to a delicious breakfast of pancakes, eggs, sausage, fruit, juice and coffee prepared by the loving hands of the Parish Knights. To honor fathers on Father’s Day and to promote a spirit of fellowship, we are offering the breakfast FREE of charge. Free Will donations will be graciously accepted.

Raffle Sponsored by St. Jude Group
The fellowship of St Jude Thaddeus will have a raffle after the July 28, 2022 Rosary. The purpose is to collect funds for the October 28th Solemn Mass in Honor of St Jude and a donation to St. Bonaventure church.
The tickets will be on sale after all the masses on June 12th and 19th. The ticket price is $5.00 per ticket. The prizes are:
1st prize 43” LG TV
2nd prize a Princes House 21-quart stock Pot
3rd prize $200.00 cash
You don’t need to be present to win, the winner of any of the prizes will be notified by phone.

Eagle Scout Project -
Thanks to Cesar Ibarra of Troup 444
Cesar Ibarra of Troup 444, as his Eagle Scout Project, replaced the plastic path boarders in part of the church garden with wood boarders. Thank you for all your efforts in this more sustainable project.

Fil-Am Community of St. Bonaventure

What a beautiful Sunday afternoon to celebrate this wonderful Filipino tradition honoring our Beloved Mother Mary! It was a joyful spiritual experience, filled with flowers, music, and eucharistic celebration. A highlight was the presence of Fr. Arnold Abelardo, who was visiting from the Philippines, concelebrating with Fr. Lawrence. Thanks to the Filipino choir of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church for the lovely eucharistic songs.
In the normal hometown tradition, a celebration won’t be complete without food - and yes, there was Filipino food, with all the delightful trimmings, provided by the Cuenco Family. See you all again next year!
Oh, Mama Mary, thank you for all your blessings of love, humility, peace, and joy!

St. Bonaventure CYO Assistant Basketball
Athletic Director
St. Bonaventure is looking for an Assistant CYO Basketball Athletic Director to eventually take over as senior Athletic Director.
The Oakland Diocese Catholic Youth Organization is a church-sponsored athletic program for elementary and junior high age youth from the parishes of the Catholic Diocese of Oakland. CYO Sports are offered by the Church as a ministry to young people.
CYO sponsors a variety of sports: girls' and boys' basketball, girls' volleyball, girls' and boys' track & field, girls' and boys' cross country, girls' softball, boys' sand volleyball and cheerleading. Teams are offered for children in third through eighth grades.
"The Catholic Youth Organization (CYO), through the vehicle of sports, provides youth with an opportunity to practice Christian attitudes and responsibilities and to become friends with other children throughout the diocese. CYO activities should be examples of the meaning of Christian sportsmanship." --CYO Code of Conduct
For the 2022 Season, the senior Athletic Director will be preparing the Assistant Athletic Director to take over the Basketball Program for 2023.

Queridos feligreses,
Me gustaría compartir algunas noticias sobre nuestro personal de clero en San Buenaventura. El Padre Arturo Cárdenas se mudará para convertirse en Administrador Parroquial temporal de la parroquia San Francisco de Asís aquí en Concord, el 16 de julio. Allí se le necesita porque el Padre Ismael Gutiérrez, de San Francisco de Asís, se tomará un año sabático (muy necesario... ¡bueno para él!).
Nuestra parroquia tendrá un sacerdote "recién acuñado", el Padre Ramón Urbina. El Padre Urbina tomara el lugar del Padre Arturo. El Padre Urbina acaba de ser ordenado sacerdote en nuestra diócesis. Él es nativo de Antioch, CA y también, por casualidad, es el cuñado de Jacob Perry, nuestro Coordinador del Ministerio Juvenil. Esperamos dar la bienvenida al Padre Ramón a San Buenaventura el 1 de julio de 2022.
Todos hemos llegado a conocer y amar al Padre Arturo. Ha sido un sacerdote maravilloso para todos nosotros. Lo extrañaremos. Los Caballeros de Colón de San Buenaventura están organizando un desayuno de panqueques el 19 de junio de 2022, después de las misas de las 7:30 a.m. y las 9 a.m. Disfrute usted y su familia de un delicioso desayuno de panqueques, huevos, salchichas, fruta, jugo y café preparado por las amorosas manos de los Caballeros de la Parroquia. Adoration & Friday Holy Hour
We offer Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament after 9:00am Mass in the Chapel. Monday through Thursday, Adoration continues for one hour after Mass. Friday Adoration continues until 3:00pm. The Friday Holy Hour beginning at 2:00pm includes the Rosary, the Chaplet of the Divine Mercy and concludes with Benediction at 3:00pm.

STAYING CONNECTED
Sacraments, Pastoral Counseling, and Staff Support
We're here for you! Our clergy and pastoral staff are available to help. We can offer pastoral counseling by appointment, over the phone or by videocall, and the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is available in person when needed. Please call the parish office at (925) 672-5800 to make an appointment. We offer the Sacrament of Reconciliation in the church on Saturdays at 3:30pm.
The office is open for walk-up visits, Monday-Thursday 8:30am-4:30pm (closed for lunch 1-1:30pm), and Friday 8:30am-12:30pm. Staff are also available by appointment. Please call the main office number or call or email the staff person directly.

The St. Bonaventure Food Pantry is open Tuesdays from 8:30-10:00am in the parish parking lot. See our website for more information. (Note: The Food Pantry thanks you for your continuing donations of food and other items, but is no longer requesting bags -- they have a sufficient supply.)
