A Letter from Fr. Peter Pham
Hello all,
As I make the transition to St. Matthew, I am grateful for the time I had been given here at St. Angela Merici.
St. Angela has been very generous in welcoming me into my priestly ministry. I very much appreciate the love and support that I have received here. I have been blessed to witness the presence of the families in this community, especially the young families who endeavor to stay active in our faith. I love hearing the sounds of little children at Mass and seeing their confused faces as they come up with their parents in the Communion line.
There have been many lessons learned in my time here—about myself, about the practice of the sacramental life, about the life of the Church in ministry—and I will take them all with me as I encounter new challenges and opportunities that await me. We all have only a limited amount of time given to us, so we owe it to God, to ourselves, and to those around us to utilize our gifts well for the sake of others, the sake of our own souls, and ultimately for the sake of the Kingdom of Heaven. The ministerial priesthood that I have the privilege of participating in is meant to be at the service of the universal priesthood—your priesthood—the priesthood that all the faithful have been baptized into. Therefore, the greatest gift that the laity can give to the Church to cherish the ministerial priesthood is to live out your vocation to family life well (and not just well, but very well).
I go with a grateful heart to God’s people. That’s one of the beautiful things about our faith—it’s universal (that’s what the word Catholic means). Whether it be St. Angela, St. Matthew, or Rome (the one in Italy, not the one in Georgia), we are “one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.”
With gratitude,
Fr. Peter Pham
