The 30 Hour Fast
Recently I was asked, "What is the 30 Hour Fast?". This is an event that the St. Joseph Youth Ministry Offices sponsors during Lent for all middle and high school aged youth (and their friends).. The purpose of
The Fast is to gather young people to share their faith with one another and the surrounding community, through service.
- The event is an overnight - Yes we sleep.
- We fast for 30 hours and perform community service during our fast
- We keep you hydrated with juice, hot chocolate, water, etc
- You bring sleeping bag/bedding, pillow and toiletries.
- You may need a change of clothes.
- The Fast begins on Friday. We ask that you stop eating by 1:00pm on Friday (March 9). Late Lunch period? Pack something to eat during a break.
- All participants gather at the Parish Center at 4:30pm on Friday.
- The Fast ends at 7:00pm on Saturday evening (March 10) at which time we break the fast with a spaghetti dinner. Dismissal is at 8:00pm on Saturday.
- On Friday evening we will be collecting food in the surrounding neighborhoods for PRISM - don't forget boots, gloves and hats.
- We will have times for prayer, education and fun.
- On Saturday we will be moving PRISM from their old location to their new location. Prism was founded by St. Joseph (and some collaborating churches) and the name means PEOPLE RESPONDING IN SOCIAL MINISTRY.
- We will also have a small group, working a habitat project (16 years old and older).
- We will attend the 4:30 Mass on Saturday.
- There is a $25.00 fee per person (plus a non perishable food item for the Food Shelf) and we suggest that each participant collect an additional $25.00 in sponsorship money.
- All money collected (over costs) will be sent to PRISM and Habitat for Humanity. All checks should be made out to The Church of St. Joseph.
This is a fantastic opportunity to get together for an exciting and enjoyable time serving in our community and growing in faith. Typically there are 50+ participants at this event.
Parents, we need your help to pull off this event. All adult volunteers are required to be E3 Credentialed (VIRTUS Trained). Call or email Larry or Erin to volunteer.
