Hello, Everyone!
When you get up in the morning at a quarter to one,
and you want to have a little fun,
you brush your teeth! (according to Raffi!)
We did brush up on Tooth health this week.
After reading several books on the subject it was decided: We can keep teeth
healthy & beautiful by eating the right foods , brushing them 2 x a day and seeing the dentist twice a year.
A fair amount of new vocabulary was introduced. We found out that each tooth has a job: Incisors, your front teeth, help you bite off food.
The Canine tooth helps tear food with its sharp point.
And of course Molars help us chew our food!
How many teeth do children have? Is it bad news when your teeth fall out when you're a child? What happens when you eat too many sticky foods & you aren't good about brushing your teeth? - Ask your child!
What can happen if you drink lots of pop or coffee & aren't good about brushing your teeth? We found out!
I explained, that a tooth's crown ( the white part we can see) - is made of the same mineral as an egg shell. So...
on Thursday one hard boiled egg was put into water, another egg was immersed in Pepsi. Children gave various predictions about what might happen to either tooth.
The next day the class checked on them. Ask your child what happened to the eggs.
Did they still look the same as the day before?
Each child made a toothbrush, signed his/her name & attached the rhyme we learned about tooth care. Skills with scissors are improving! And thank goodness Olivia was here to help with this task.
Thank you so much for all the snacks brought in this week.
Before I forget: Our Silly String Fight has to happen another time. Too many sick friends. :-( Thank you for understanding! Another date will be set for this event!
Mrs. Mac & I are looking forward to more fun in learning with your child!
