Summer Mass Schedule begins this weekend, June 25 & 26, 2022. Saturday Mass is at 4:00 p.m.; on Sunday Mass is at 8:00 a.m. & 10:00 a.m. (Livestream).
VBS Cancelled. Vacation Bible School is cancelled for this year due to a lack of numbers. Thank you to those families who signed up, and to all of the Youth Ministry and other volunteers who were planning to work with us. We will try again next year!
Father Kunkel Update. Father was moved to Stella Maris in Timonium for rehab as he recovers from his surgery on 6/14. Please keep him in your prayers. Send cards and get well messages to the parish office for delivery to Father.

Summer Contributions: First, I wish all of you a happy and safe summer. Our parish is dependent on your contributions, especially during vacation season. We, as you, must still pay the utilities, salaries, etc. If you use parish offertory envelopes and you are away for the weekend, I ask you to please make up your contribution the following weekend.

Menu: Tuna Salad on Roll Macaroni Salad Tapioca Pudding
The menu may be subject to change due to inclement weather and or based on the availability of time for preparation.
Cost:
- Lunch, 16 games of bingo, 3 games to a card - $15.00
- Bingo and no lunch - $10.00
- Lunch and no bingo - $7.00.
For a small additional fee extra cards and cards for special games can be purchased. Large print bingo cards are available upon request.
The prize for the jackpot game is $200.00 for a win in 58 or fewer numbers. A consolation prize of $50.00 will be awarded for a win in more than 54 numbers.
For additional information or if you have any special dietary needs that prevent you from eating the offered meal, please contact the parish office (410452-5166, ext. 22) at least one week prior for an alternative option.
Just for Children, Ages 14 & Under: In July we will offer a free Bingo game at the end of the day at no extra cost.
Successful Sewing Day! We had a wonderful sewing day!! 11 ladies attended; even a “non-crafter”. During the winter and today, the ladies made 84 dresses!! We also put together more than 30 sewing kits and lots of jewelry kits for the shoe boxes for Operation Christmas child. Our next date to get together is October 12. 9th Gr. High School Faith Formation Update. 9th Gr. HSFF Registration forms will be sent out at the end of June and uploaded to the Parish website for any student entering into 9th grade for the 2022-2023 School year. Students are encouraged to be a in a formation program prior to preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation in 10th Grade. We would love to have your incoming 9th grader join us for a year of Discipleship Formation. Prevention and Recovery Ministry
Partnership to End Addiction is an organization that is dedicated to addiction prevention, treatment and recovery. Their webpage (drugfree.org) contains extensive information from tips on preventing substance use to guidance on managing recovery from addiction.
Today's article discusses the need for parents and caregivers not to focus exclusively on a child who is struggling with substance use. As quoted in the article, “You need to take care of yourself too because you’ve got to stay strong; you’ve got to be stronger than your kid through this. Because if you don’t, how are you going to help your child?”
The article contains a brief video and tips on how you can practice self-care.
Our Daily Bread - Update
It's time for casseroles again! Casserole pans will be made available for pickup after each Mass (while supplies last) on the weekend of July 9-10.
Since we need to limit our number of casseroles, please only use these pans.
Please understand the importance of returning the frozen casseroles so that we can help ODB to serve their clients.
We will be depending on everyone who takes a pan to RETURN the frozen casseroles to the Parish freezer by Sunday, July 17th.
You can find the recipes on the ODB Recipes 2017.doc link that is available in St. Mary's weekly Newsletter.
Just choose a recipe, follow the recipe as it is written, double wrap the casserole with foil, label it with the type of casserole and the date, and freeze it.
If you choose to do a mac + cheese casserole, please be sure to follow ODB's mac + cheese recipe. Please do not include ham or any meat.
The frozen casseroles must be placed in the Parish freezer by July 17th.

Outreach to Haiti - Special Collection
The name of the parish is Our Lady of Peace, and it is in St. Louis du Nord, a township situated in the northwestern side of Haiti. The name of the village where the parish is located is Desgranges. The pastor, Father Jonas GUE, started the construction of a new church about two years ago, but the process is very slow because of a huge lack of economic resources. Right now, he relies solely on the generosity of the parishioners but it is extremely difficult for the latter to find financial means to help. Such a situation seriously impedes the progress of the construction.
Here are some pictures of what has been done thus far. There is much to do still to bring the church building to completion. The Catholic population is large, and a place of worship is deemed crucial for them. That will allow them to remain united as a strong faith community, and they will not leave the parish to go to other denominations. Father Jonas GUE and his parishioners would greatly appreciate any assistance given to achieve the church building. Thank you for any generosity extended to this project, and God will bless you more abundantly.
Respect Life
Freedom
The second reading’s teaching on freedom creates the opportunity to preach today on the relationship between freedom and the right to life.
Unwilling to describe the details of dismemberment that the abortion procedure entails, supporters of its legality have taken refuge in much more positive words like ‘freedom’ and ‘choice.’ Ironically, of course, abortions do not happen because of “freedom of choice,” but rather because some pregnant women think they have no freedom and no choice but to have an abortion. Hence the pro-life movement works daily to provide alternatives to abortion.
But to invoke ‘freedom’ to justify abortion twists the very notion of freedom, in a way that today’s second reading warns against. The corrective truth that Paul gives is that we are to love our neighbor as ourselves. The unborn children are our neighbors and loving them starts with protecting them from violence.
The command to ‘love our neighbor as ourselves’ doesn’t simply mean to love them “to the same extent” as we love ourselves, but more fundamentally to love them “as a person like ourselves.” In other words, it means that we recognize in them a person with the same worth, value, dignity, and rights as we ourselves have. This is precisely where the “pro-choice” mentality has gone wrong, when it fails to see the unborn child as our neighbor. The justifications for abortion would not hold if invoked as a reason to kill a born child. ‘Love your neighbor as a person like yourself.’
Our Declaration of Independence invokes the ‘right to life’ as an ‘unalienable right’ granted to all “by their Creator,” not their government. What God gives government cannot take away. This is the foundation of our freedom – that God himself grants our human rights, and that ‘to secure these rights, governments are instituted.’ This is the basis of the freedom we enjoy in America. Preserving that freedom requires preserving the fundamental rights that are its foundation, starting with life itself. (priestsforlife.org)
Eighth and Ninth Months (size: about 18 inches) In the last two months the baby continues to gain weight. She is developing a layer of fat that will keep her warm after birth. In the 9th month she will shift to a head-down position, preparing for birth. Her lungs are now fully developed and capable of making the transition to breathing air. After birth she will continue the human growth process for approximately the next 80 years.
Save the Date: BirthRight Baby Shower at all Masses on July 16 and 17. A bassinet will be placed on the altar, and material and financial donations will be collected. Material needs include diapers of all sizes, clothing up to size 2T, baby blankets, crib sheets, baby bottles, bibs, burp cloths, and other mother/baby needs.

Fourth of July Frassati Cookout - In honor of Independence Day and the feast of Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati (both celebrated on the 4th of July), the Baltimore Frassati Fellowship at Saints Philip and James is hosting a cookout. The invitation is open to all Catholic young adults in the greater Baltimore area. Catholic 301: The Spirit of the Liturgy, Saturday mornings, 9:00-10:30 a.m. July 9, 16, 23, and 30, Cathedral of Mary Our Queen. All are invited to a four-week study of Joseph Ratzinger’s influential book The Spirit of the Liturgy led by Father Justin Gough. Classes will be held in the Cathedral Parish Center.
Topics will include what Ratzinger has to say about the essence of the liturgy what role art and music play in the liturgy, and what it means for us to be active participants in liturgical celebrations. Volunteers are the backbone of the parish and we welcome new volunteers with open arms. However, in the world today we must do everything we can to protect all people of all ages, the church and also yourself.
