Happy Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Today we celebrate that human heart of Jesus that was pierced for us, that human heart of Jesus that beats for us, that human heart of Jesus that bleeds for us.
This comes from the scripture from Matthew Chapter 11 verses 28 through 30; “Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.” It's the only time when Jesus talks about his heart that he describes it as meek and humble. We pray all the time in our faith tradition; Jesus meek and humble of heart make my heart like unto thy own. That's what we're praying for ourselves and our world today. How can our hearts be more like the heart of Jesus?
I encourage you just to do the first part of what Jesus says in that scripture from Matthew; come to me, get to know his heart. If you have never looked at, studied, or posted in your house the promises of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, look at those, and let him speak to you. Jesus made 12 promises to Saint Margaret Mary. To those who venerate his Sacred Heart just come to him with what burdens you, come to him with what weighs on your heart, come to him and ask him to set your heart on fire.
That's what my desire is on this solemnity, and I hope that's something that we can all say. That our hearts are more and more like unto his own today, more than they were yesterday. Come to him with what weighs on you, for he is meek and humble of heart.
God bless you,
Fr. Matt
