Wednesday June 29th is the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul, and is a Holy Day of Obligation. There will be Masses at 10.00 am and 7.30 pm.

The coach will be leaving St Dunstan’s promptly at 11.45 am on Saturday 2nd July. The Mass starts at 2.00 pm. Please make sure that you are on time as we will not be able to wait for any latecomers. Please bring a packed lunch.

COLLECTION THIS WEEKEND FOR DEACON NICK
There will be a collection this weekend for a gift for Deacon Nick as he is Ordained. Please donate using a retiring collection envelope if you have them or by using any of the Dona machines in the narthex. If making a donation by cheque, please make the cheque payable to ‘St Dunstan’s Church’ and note on the back that it is a gift for Deacon Nick. There would normally be a collection this weekend for Peter's Pence, but this collection will be taken next weekend.
The 10.30 am Mass on Sunday July 3rd will be the first Mass that Deacon Nick will celebrate after his Ordination. There will be visiting priests and deacons, family and friends of Deacon Nick. Immediately after the Mass there will be a reception, with refreshments, in the Function Room and garden. Please note that there will be no Italian Mass at 12.00 noon on that day.

A NOTE FROM ST HUGH OF LINCOLN PARISH
Last weekend, with the Bishop’s permission, Fr Gerard announced that he would be leaving to enter into a priestly community in Edinburgh. Bishop Richard has asked Fr Rob and Deacon (Fr) Nick to take pastoral care of Knaphill with the support of Deacon Rob and Deacon Russell. This will be with effect from mid-September. How this will work out in practice is still to be determined.
SATURDAY MORNINGS IN JUNE AND JULY
During June and July there will continue to be a number of changes to the usual Saturday schedule. On Saturdays 25th June, 9th July and 16th July there will be no Morning Prayer, Rosary, Adoration or Sacrament of Reconciliation after morning Mass. On 25th June and 16th July there will be First Holy Communion Masses at 10.00 am and 12.00 noon. On 9th July the First Holy Communion Mass will be at 10.00 am (followed by Baptisms).
HOLY COMMUNION FOR THE SICK
Please, if you are a Minister of Communion and would consider taking Holy Communion to someone who is housebound then call the Parish Office. We are short of volunteers for this ministry.
LIFT TO MASS NEEDED

WOKING FOOD BANK COLLECTION - July 2nd/3rd
Thank you to everyone who made a donation to the last Food Bank collection. There will be another collection next weekend, Saturday July 2nd and Sunday July 3rd. The Food Bank are in particular need of men's razors, children's toothpaste and brushes, crisps, long-life sponge puddings, chocolate, tinned ham, shower gel, small jars of coffee, tinned fruit, pasta sauce, long-life full milk, tinned carrots, tinned peas, instant mashed potato and tinned mixed vegetables.

Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
1 Kings 19: 16, 19-21. Elijah and Elisha were two very significant prophets in the Old Testament, Elisha succeeding Elijah in the prophetic ministry. To follow in God’s way often demands huge sacrifice, as indicated in the reading. Total self-giving is seen in its perfection in Christ’s death on the Cross.

Galatians 5: 1, 13-18. St Paul gives some straight advice; once free from sin, Christ intends us to remain free. The new life in Christ is not always lived by heroic gestures, rather in everyday circumstances, in the normal run of life. Luke 9: 51-62. Jesus resolutely takes the road for Jerusalem as his followers pledge to follow him wherever he goes.

FRIENDS OF ST DUNSTAN’S SCHOOL – SUMMER FAIR

The Summer Fair is one of the biggest events run by FOSD and this year it will be held on Sunday June 26th from 11.30 am – 14.30 pm. There will be lots of new stalls: Zorbing, a 40ft obstacle course, a bouncy castle for the little ones, beat the goalie, face painting and more. You can grab a drink from the bar, eat from the delicious BBQ, or this year visit the new freshly-baked pizza stall too. Entrance is free (but donations gratefully received) and everyone is welcome. Please don’t park in the church car park until the morning Masses have finished.

WOKING LIONS KENT AND SUSSEX AIR AMBULANCE APPEAL
Kent & Sussex Air Ambulance merged with Surrey Air Ambulance about 8 years ago, for economy reasons, having been formed in the 1990's. They cover all 3 counties based in Redhill and Rochester with 2 helicopters and 3 rapid response vehicles which District Lions Clubs have funded over the last 4 years.
Speed of attendance at accidents is critical to save lives of badly injured. Lions Clubs from across the 3 Counties donated £150,000 10 years ago, to enable them to be the first AA service flying at night, and they still are the only one flying 24/7 & 7 days a week. Our support is needed to enable the AA to continue this much needed facility. Last year alone they attended over 2,500 incidents. £10 a month could pay for a unit of blood to treat a critically injured patient.

ADMISSION TO RECEPTION at ST DUNSTAN’S SCHOOL in SEPTEMBER 2023
When you apply for your child to be admitted into the Reception Year at St Dunstan’s School in September 2023, one of the forms you will have to submit to the school is the Supplementary Information Form (SIF). One of the questions on the form asks you to state how often you attend Sunday (or Saturday evening) Mass. Once you have completed the SIF form, a priest in the parish where you normally attend Mass must sign the form indicating that they confirm (or not) the Mass attendance you have stated. This will happen during December. Dates will be in the newsletter.
St Dunstan’s is a very large Parish, and it is impossible for the priest(s) to be objective about their response to what has been stated on your form. For this reason, we offer you the opportunity to ‘sign’ a register of attendance at Mass whenever you come on either Saturday evening or Sunday. In this way the priest can look at the register when you bring your SIF form for signing in December and compare the two.
Signing will begin this weekend, June 25th/26th. To join the signing process you need to come to the Parish Office on a weekday to set up a sheet for your child. You will also be given more information about what is involved. The Office is normally open 9.00-1.00 and 2.00-5.00, but do avoid times when Mass is being celebrated.

Last year the British Medical Association voted to become neutral on assisted suicide, in June there is an opportunity to revert this stance back to opposition. A leading local orchestra celebrates its 125th anniversary with what promises to be an exciting concert. Woking Symphony Orchestra’s upcoming concert, at 7.30 pm on Saturday 25th June at Cobham Free School, features Woking Young Musician 2019 Sophie Kauer playing the Dvořák cello concerto. Sophie has recently returned from acting in a film with Cate Blanchett. The concert has two very interesting family connections: the orchestra will be performing Scherzo Fantastique by Josef Suk, who was Dvořák's son-in-law, and one of the double bass players, Vicki Rowe, is the daughter-in-law of Ruth Gipps, whose Second Symphony will feature in the second half. Conductor Roy Stratford said: “We are delighted to be able to perform a wonderful piece by this unjustly neglected woman composer. It will also be a great pleasure to welcome Sophie Kauer back to Woking as our soloist, and we are looking forward to what promises to be an enjoyable evening for both audience and orchestra.” Tickets are £14 (adult) and £7 (U16/student).
