Greetings my brothers and sisters of St. Rose of Lima parish. It's me, Marcos, the seminarian of the month, because I'm the only seminarian, so I name myself the Seminarian of the Month.
Today Friday, in the Gospel, Jesus calls Matthew and He says follow me, and then Matthew follows Jesus. How many times does Jesus calls us by our name or pretty much just says follow me? and how have we responded? Sometimes we ignore it, sometimes it's just hard to hear Jesus. It's interesting because the message after He called Matthew and they went to eat was, I desire mercy not sacrifice. He wanted people to know the meaning of that, I desire mercy not sacrifice. Mercy, let's be merciful that's what He wants that's what God wants. He wants us to be merciful to each other, to love each other; and sometimes that's hard because you need to start by loving. Not just to love as I love my shoes, or I love this flag, it's more. It's comprehending each other, it is to be patient with each other, it's just to be more for each other. It’s offering myself for the other.
Today is the first of July, crazy enough we already are in July and it's hard to understand how quick the time has gone. July 4th, Independence Day is coming, and we can go and celebrate our freedom. That reminds me of the verse in 1 Peter verse 16, it says "be free yet without using freedom as a pretext to do evil". Let's be free, let's celebrate this part of your life. Let's celebrate the freedom that we have, but let's not use that as a pretext to do evil. Sometimes we want to celebrate in our own way without being merciful to each other, without loving each other. Let's try this July, for this coming Monday let's try to celebrate thinking of each other, trying to love each other. I know some people might not like fireworks, some they love fireworks, let's try to find the middle way. Maybe we can go to a place where we can enjoy it together. Let's try to find that center where we can love each other, but at same time celebrate our freedom, always remembering that the freedom that we have and especially the freedom that we're celebrating is the freedom that we have as human beings, here on the earth.
But let's not forget about God because He gives us the real freedom, He doesn't just give us the freedom here with the human body, but He gives us even more the freedom of the Spirit. Let's be free and let's act in love because that's a real freedom. My brothers and sisters let's celebrate and let's start getting ready from today, Friday, let's start to prepare ourselves to celebrate the freedom, but the real freedom not only the one that we know of being here in the world, but also the true freedom Jesus brings. Let's celebrate that by loving each other, by being merciful to each other, because He does not want sacrifice, He wants mercy. He wants us to love each other He wants us to be patient, let's do that. Especially if you are traveling, be patient with each other. You know it's going to be traffic in the highway, you already know that there's going to be a lot of people in the stores. Let's be patient with each other, let's try to love each other, let's try to show kindness in that way. Let's try to show Jesus Christ to others to show them the freedom that we have with Jesus, the freedom that God gives us every single day and every moment.
My brothers and sisters this video is longer than usual, thank you so much for tuning in and we will see each other pretty much every day but through this platform next Friday
God Bless,
Marcos Alvarado, Seminarian
