From the Pastor: Renew Your Dedication to Christ!
This weekend we are celebrating the anniversary of the dedication of our parish church, which took place on June 27, 1909. As we celebrate this day on which a building which is so precious to our community was transformed by the prayer of the church and the presence of our Lord, it is a good time to consider our own dedication to Christ.
We are also dedicated! By our baptism, we have been set apart as sons and daughters of God. Are we living according to this dedication? Are we perhaps failing in one or another area of our lives to fully embrace it? Or have we even forgotten that we are dedicated altogether? No matter. The Lord's mercies are new every morning! Today we can re-dedicate ourselves to living as the disciples of Christ we are called to be.
How can we renew our dedication to Christ?
1. Receive the Sacraments!
If you are not baptized, ask about baptism! If not confirmed (or if you were baptized in a non-Catholic church) seek confirmation in the Catholic Church. If it has been a while since you confessed your sins, go to confession! The Sacraments are a great gift, and the most powerful source of grace for living our baptismal promises.
2. Pray!
It is not possible to fully live out our baptismal call without daily prayer. Whether you spend time with our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament, meditate on the mysteries of the Rosary, read Sacred Scripture, make sure that you have time with our Lord every single day! No need to jump on the latest secular craze of mindfulness or pagan "meditation," the Catholic tradition is full of a wealth of methods for prayer that will renew your heart to live out your baptismal dedication!
3. Love one Another!
Love is NOT a feeling. It is a choice, an act of the will to choose the good of another. (of course, the act of loving must be in harmony with the truth revealed by God). The love Christ asks of us is difficult, but not impossible! With God's help, we can love our neighbor and even our enemies! Re-dedicate yourself to the second greatest commandment today and choose to love someone who you have been struggling to love lately.
As we give thanks for 113 years of St. Philip Neri parish's transformative presence on the Near Eastside, may we be transformed and renewed in our dedication to love of God and neighbor.
St. Philip Neri, pray for us!
No importa.
¿Cómo podemos renovar nuestra dedicación a Cristo?
Por el Parroco: Renueva Su Dedicacion a Cristo!
