Dear Parishioners,
For three weeks, from 21st May until 12th June, I was a delegate in the United Kingdom at the 19th General Chapter of the Mill Hill Missionaries together with Fr Domingo and Fr Richard. While discerning the new directions in which God is guiding us, we looked at future Society policies around Mission and Identity, Governance, Formation, Finances and Stewardship and Care of Members. The future of our Missionary Society (www.millhillmissionaries.com) looks bright with a new membership of 131 missionary priests from Africa and Asia and almost 200 seminarians in formation.
The good news is that as Mill Hill Missionaries we received a strong mandate to strengthen our presence in the Archdiocese of New York. Therefore, from August 1st, our Mill Hill Missionaries will be committed to ministering in two parishes: St John the Evangelist & Our Lady of Mount Carmel in White Plains and St Charles Borromeo, Resurrection and All Saints in Harlem (Manhattan). His Eminence Cardinal Dolan has appointed me kindly as the new Administrator of the Harlem Parish. I will be waiting for Fr Benedict Ohanga Oduor from Kenya to join me as soon as his visa has been granted.
It means that after more than three years I will be leaving our Parish here in White Plains. It will not be easy to say goodbye as we have journeyed together and in good collaboration made it possible to achieve a lot. St John the Evangelist & Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish is a wonderful Parish and a powerhouse of Prayer having two Churches. Over the last few years, we faced some big challenges, not the least when Covid-19 turned our parish lives in so many ways upside down. But we did overcome, and I am so glad that many of you have found your way back to Church for attending daily and weekend Masses.
I am very grateful to the increasing number of volunteers who continue to be great witnesses of our Risen Lord by making themselves available for parish ministry and being active members in various parish groups. Please, always keep in mind the Big Picture, be united in the Spirit of Mission and proclaim the Joy of the Gospel. Over the next month I will be handing over to Fr Domingo Pon-an Arnaiz as the new incoming Administrator. He will do a fabulous job together with our new Parochial Vicar Fr Richard Njoroge, our Office Team and Parish Staff, the CND Sisters, Fr Bart Daly, Fr Thomas C. Joseph, all the visiting priests and of course all of YOU.
I will always remember you for your great support, prayers and generosity. Please, when you can, remember me also in your prayers as new challenges are ahead of me. Thanks so much for who you ARE in Jesus Christ and all you do for God’s Kingdom on earth in a Spirit of Love and Service. May God bless you all!

CARTA DEL PADRE WILLEM
De White Plains a Harlem
Estimados Feligreses,
