Sunday Greetings,
In light of the wonderful news Friday, I wanted to share with you Cardinal DiNardo's statement on the overturn of Roe v. Wade. In addition, I am sharing the USCCB's statement. See links below.
In case you do not get Father Sean's weekly Parish Updates (if you don't, I highly recommend signing up for that flocknote to stay up to date with all that is going on in our parish), Father included these wise words from Timothy Cardinal Dolan of the Archdiocese of New York that I think speak well to the current climate in our country: “We must remember that this is a judicial victory, not a cultural one. The culture remains deeply divided on the issue, which will be evidenced by the patchwork of state statutes pertaining to abortion across the country. To change the culture and build a culture of life, we need to enact family-friendly policies that welcome children, support mothers, cherish families and empower them to thrive. … Building a culture of life is not solely the responsibility of the government or those heroic individuals working on the front lines, in crisis pregnancy centers and other ministries. All of us need to respect the dignity and sanctity of human life in everything we do: in how we treat our children, spouses and parents; in the way we behave in our place of work; in sum, how we live Jesus’ two great commandments to love God and love our neighbor. Love, charity and reverence for human life from the moment of conception through natural death – these will build and sustain a culture of life.”
As the effects of this monumental decision by the court unfold, let us pray for guidance as we move forward in our goals of protecting life. This is the beginning of a new era in America on the right to life! The Dobbs decision does not eliminate abortion altogether, rather it transfers the authority back to the states as it had been prior to Roe because the Constitution does not confer a right to abortion.
We continue to pray for our local governments to uphold this new era and for a building of a society and economy that supports marriages and families, and where every woman has the support and resources she needs to bring her child into this world.
Have a wonderful week!
Blessings,
