“…as a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you” (From Isaiah 66:10-14c)
When we were little and we’d fall down, we would raise up our arms and our parents would scoop us up to make things better. When we needed to cross the street, we’d put up a hand and our parents would take it and safely get us across the street. When we wanted out of our crib in the morning upon waking or in the middle of the night, we’d throw up our arms and our parents would pick us up and comfort us. As we struggled to take our first steps, it was the outreached arms of our parents that we toddled to. And, my sisters and brothers in Christ, so it can still be today with our God! No matter our age, we are still God’s little children! Put out your arms when you’ve fallen into sin and you will be scooped up…in the terrors of illness/grief/unemployment/poverty, put out a hand and you will be escorted to safety! As we struggle to take our first steps in any endeavor or in the Christian life, know that God’s arms are outreached and waiting to catch you! Like a loving mother and father, God is waiting to comfort you…so don’t you forget it! Amen
