Hi Amazing Parents!
We, the staff of St. James, hope to see you all tomorrow for Family Night! Join us from 5-6:30 (5-5:30 will be the free will donation dinner, hot dogs, bun, chips, carrots, cookie and a drink and from 5:30-6:30 will be the make and take activities for all ages). To list just a few of the many fun events happening tomorrow night in classrooms, there will be cloud dough and slime making science experiments, super hero masks and The Dot art, math, story writing, snacks, story telling and more!
To celebrate our love of reading we have begun our at home Sweet Reading Contest. Each day during the next two weeks you will be completing the light pink reading log that was sent home last Friday in your child's backpack. The log is to be turned in each day and checked off by the teacher. Please help your child time their minutes read each day and initial the log. Students will move around our class Candy Land game board as they read. Once they reach certain amounts they will earn SWEET prizes to motivate home reading. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. I apologize for sending home the papers last Friday without the reading contest dates... oops! The contest began on Monday, February 26th and will end on Friday, March 9th. This is a two week challenge! Good luck and happy reading!
Also, today I sent home the Wednesday Spelling homework. It is to be completed and turned in by Friday, March 2nd. This is a fill in the blank assignment.
Lastly, I sent home a paper with your child that is VERY important about the Seesaw app. See attached YouTube videos for a better explanation of the program we are starting here in 2nd grade! It's lots of fun, gets students engaged in their learning as they post pictures, videos and documents and is a great parent communication tool. Essentially it's a student digital portfolio. It saves on paper usage and lets parents in on what we are learning here in the classroom in real time! The best part is that it's FREE! Get connected today and check out all the learning that is happening here in 2nd grade!
