Dear Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EMHC) and Parishioners,
Our Bishop, Joe Vásquez has sent a letter authorizing that the Precious Blood will again be offered at Mass beginning September 14. At Emmaus, we will begin to offer the Precious Blood at the Vigil Mass on September 17 and thenceforward. The Church teaches that “Holy Communion has a fuller form as a sign when it takes place under both kinds, for in this form the sign of the Eucharistic Banquet is more clearly evident.” (General Instruction of the Roman Missal)
As your pastor, I want to use this opportunity to accomplish:
1. The required enrollment of names of EMHC in the office of the bishop
2. Instruction for all EMHC as required by the bishop
3. Parish Deputation Ceremony
4. Inviting new members of our parish to participate and former EMHC to return
I will submit the names of all active EMHC to the office of the bishop. Two choices for the required instruction are Wednesday, August 31 at 6:30 pm and Thursday, September 1, at 12:00 noon. The Parish Deputation Ceremony is scheduled at all Masses on September 3 and 4 and at the 5:30 Mass on Wednesday, September 7.
There is a great need in our parish for additional EMHC. It is important that we have a sufficient number of parishioners to serve both the Body and the Blood of Christ. It you are aware of a former EMHC who has not participated in this ministry in the past year, please contact them on my behalf and invite them to consider returning. Also, you can help by inviting parishioners to participate in this ministry.
Certification in EIM (Ethics and Integrity in Ministry) is required and there are opportunities for this program in our parish.
My main objective is to strengthen the Eucharistic Ministry at Mass in our parish by the required instruction and a sufficient number of participants who are committed to serving. I ask you and all our parishioners to prayerfully consider the service of EMHC by reflecting upon the Parish Deputation Ceremony that I include in this letter:
“In this ministry, you must be examples of Christian living in faith and conduct; you must strive to grow in holiness through this sacrament of unity and love. Remember that, though many, we are one body because we share the one bread and one cup.
As ministers of Holy Communion be, therefore, especially observant of the Lord’s command to love your neighbor. For when he gave his Body and Blood as food to his disciples, he said to them: ‘This is my commandment, that you should love one another as I have loved you.’
Are you resolved to undertake the office of giving the Body and Blood of the Lord to your brothers and sisters, and so serve to build up the Church? I am!
Are you resolved to administer the Holy Eucharist with the utmost care and reverence? I am!”
Thank you for your kind attention to this important letter and for your service to the community of Emmaus.
Your Pastor,
Father David
Queridos feligreses,
Padre David
