World Day for Grandparents and Elderly
Pope Francis has established throughout the Church the
celebration of the World Day for Grandparents and Elderly on the
fourth Sunday of July, near the liturgical memorial of Saints Joachim and Anne, the grandparents of Jesus. The next
World Day for Grandparents and Elderly is Sunday, July 24, 2022. The theme for this year's celebration is "
In Old Age They Will Still Bear Fruit" (Ps. 92:15). The theme is meant to emphasize how grandparents are a gift both to society and the Church.
This year, Pope Francis is also extending the opportunity for a
plenary indulgence "to the faithful who devote adequate time to visit, in presence or virtually, through the media, their elderly brothers and sisters in need or in difficulty” on July 24.
Grandparents and the Elderly on the eve of Sunday, 24 July.
At St. Isidore Parish we will celebrate the World Day for Grandparents and Elderly at all weekend Masses on July 23/24. We invite all grandparents and elderly folks to attend and receive a prayer of blessing from Pope Francis at the Mass.
Summer Heat
Please remember to check on your neighbors and those who are elderly in these hot summer days. Stay hydrated and out of the sun. Remember Sts. Martha and Mary Church and St. Rose of Lima Church are air-conditioned for Masses!
A Prayer for Summer
God, as the heat of summer intensifies, we pray for those without air conditioning or electricity, clean water, and health care. For all of our neighbors in "survival mode", give them the communities and resources to not only survive, but to thrive this summer. And Lord, remind us to give you a drink when we see you thirsty. Amen
