Friends, our Gospel for Sunday gives us an opportunity to reflect on the great prayer that Jesus taught us. Think how this prayer links us to all of the great figures in Christian history, from Peter and Paul to Augustine, Thomas Aquinas, Francis of Assisi, John Henry Newman, G.K. Chesterton, John Paul II, and right up to the present day.
A desire to pray is planted deep within us. It just means the desire to speak to God and to listen to him. Keep in mind that prayer is not designed to change God’s mind or to tell God something he doesn’t know. God isn’t like a big city boss or a reluctant pasha whom we have to persuade. He is rather the one who wants nothing other than to give us good things—though they might not always be what we want.
Can you see how this prayer rightly orders us? We must put God’s holy name first; we must strive to do his will in all things and at all times; we must be strengthened by spiritual food or we will fall; we must be agents of forgiveness; we must be able to withstand the dark powers.

Fr. John's homily for this weekend is found here. The disciples ask Jesus to teach them how to pray as he prays. The Jewish people prayed the Shema and the psalms. Clearly, they know how to pray. But Jesus prays with an intimacy and relationship to God that the disciples yearned for. It is an intimacy pointed directly towards the Eucharist.
Let's start spreading the love.
Interfaith Community Services (ICS) is looking to restock its food banks this July with the fifth annual Peanut Butter Party food drive. You may leave your peanut butter jars on the table located outside the parish office doors Monday through Thursday, from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm. Last year we collected and donated 435 jars, this year we have only collected 147 jars. You still have time to donate our collection ends on August 4th!
ICS is asking the community to “spread the love” by contributing 10,000 jars of peanut butter to help replenish its food bank supply through the end of the year. In an average month ICS gives out about 2,000 jars of peanut butter.
“Peanut butter is enjoyed by people of all ages and kids can easily make a meal with it. A 16 oz. jar of peanut butter goes a long way to feed a family of four, plus it can stay fresh for months.” says Tim Kromer, ICS Director of Outreach and Partnerships. “It’s also packed with protein and healthy nutrients, making it a great item to put in every bag of food we give.”
Scandal, division, disease, doubt. The Church has withstood each of these throughout our very human history. But today we confront all of them, all at once. Our response in this moment is pivotal.
In the midst of these roaring waves, Jesus is present, reminding us that he is more powerful than the storm. He desires to heal, renew, and unify the Church and the world.
How will he do it? By uniting us once again around the source and summit of our faith—the Holy Eucharist. The National Eucharistic Revival is the joyful, expectant, grassroots response of the entire Catholic Church in the U.S. to this divine invitation.

55+ Gamers are Back!
We are cordially inviting past 55+ Gamers and parishioners to pick up where we left off (that is, prior to the pandemic) and finally start our games once again. 0ur first game will begin on Friday, August 5th, and we will meet every other Friday until we run out of games to play (in other words, indefinitely). Some of you probably have not heard of this group before so let me fill you in. Anyone 55 years or age (exceptions are considered) may participate. We enjoy playing card games, board games, dominoes, etc. Basically, whatever is fun. The group has obtained several games over the years so we have a great assortment of games to choose from or a member may bring a favorite game of their own that they think would be enjoyable to all.
Our games will be held in the Parish Hall from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm every other Friday of the month. You may participate for all or part of that time frame. Come all the time or come once in a while. We ask that you bring your own snacks and beverages or bring a snack to share with others. Masks are strongly encouraged for unvaccinated participants.
