Dear Parents-
The end of July is upon us and with it, I celebrate my baby’s 21st birthday! My mother always told me that time speeds up as we age, and now I know how much! As I get ready to celebrate her and then send her back for her junior year of college, I encourage each of you to enjoy your children as much as possible. Take a break and just spend time with them. It goes much too quickly!
This week we are making many decisions on class lists, teaching assignments, schedules, curriculum, and resources. There is so many moving pieces to get ready for the school year. Daily deliveries from UPS and the Post Office bring supplies that need to be inventoried and delivered to the appropriate rooms. We are certainly keeping busy!
I attended the Catholic Schools Center of Excellence annual meeting this past week. They support the Catholic Schools in all the diocese of Minnesota. This year they will continue their support at Divine Mercy. They are making the Believe and Read and Peace of Mind programs possible for us along with providing professional development and technology training for teachers. They do a lot for us, and it is good to see this organization growing strong.
Next week I meet with new principals in our Archdiocese. As I begin my 11th year as principal (34 at DMCS), I have been asked to mentor those just starting out. Please pray for me as I begin this endeavor. Pray also for all those who are working to lead our Catholic Schools in this turbulent secular environment. Help us always remember that the schools belong to Him, and we are just caretakers while we are here. Thank you all for continuing to trust us as we partner with you to educate your children; mind, body, and soul.
Now that the final rush of July is passing, August reminds us that the new school year is just around the corner. In three short weeks, teachers will return to the building and prepare to welcome our students on August 29th. It is a time to take a deep breath and squeeze out the final moments of the summer. I hope you find some time to spend with those you love the best!
Enjoy these warm, hazy summer days!
