Happy and holy 19th Sunday in Ordinary Time! It is August…what a joy!
St. Paul in his letter to the Galatians writes, “And recognizing the grace that I had been given, James, Cephas, and John—those reputed to be pillars—gave me and Barnabas the right hand of fellowship, so that we should go to the Gentiles, and they to the circumcised. They only asked us to remember the poor, the very thing I was eager to do.” (Gal 2:9-10)
We are called as brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus to have special care for the poor, the vulnerable and the forgotten in our world. It was a mandate to the Jewish people from the very beginning and called for directly in the prophetic voice of Moses in Deuteronomy 10:18. A command and work of mercy which we are called to answer to day.
Next week, August 13-14, our parish will be hosting a speaker from the group, “From Mission to Mission” as part of the annual Diocese of San Jose Mission Co-Op program where each parish is called to be a support to the many charitable causes throughout the United States and the world support by the Catholic Church...
