Natural Family Planning (NFP) has been shown to improve marriages - published studies have shown increased marital satisfaction. It also greatly improves marital communications. NFP is free after the initial training, and empowers couples by giving them highly accurate information about their own fertility, rather than relying on a third party. Finally, NFP couples typically have extremely low divorce rates; one study of 1100 couples in CA showed a divorce rate of less than 2% over 24 years. The name of Father Michael McGivney is forever associated with the Knights of Columbus, a Catholic Order he founded during his lifetime. Now a Blessed, he died of tuberculosis on August 14, 1890 in Thomaston, Connecticut. He was only 38. The name of Chip Smith is forever associated in the annals of jurisprudence with the "Chip Smith Instruction" in which a judge insists his jurors break a deadlock. Chip murdered Ansonia’s Chief of Police in a drunken rage and died on September 1, 1882, the first person in twenty years to be hanged in Connecticut. He was only 23. Both men were American sons of Irish immigrants; both grew up playing on the working class streets of Connecticut. Father Michael held his first job at a spoon-making factory; Chip took a revolver to the hoopskirt factory where he failed to get a job and fatally shot Chief Hayes after first agreeing to be arrested quietly. Told he had killed the Chief, Chip said he was “glad of it” and expected “others to do their part” in defying the law. Based on historical records from the New York Times and New Haven Morning Journal and Courier, this play imagines the 600 days after Chip’s arrest, when Father Michael regularly visited him in jail. Through his meetings with Blessed Michael, Chip transformed from a “leading spirit in the rough and troublesome element of the boroughs’, as the New York Times called him, to a man whose final requests were a High Mass in his jail cell and prayers that he might die a holy death.

Canadian sculptor Timothy Schmalz thinks big. His epic bronze statues on classic Christian themes are winning new audiences internationally. His latest project "The Stations of the Cross" will lay a string of Stations of the Cross from Ontario, Canada to the California coast, creating a new international pilgrimage trail for the faithful and art-lovers alike. Join BXVI and the Menlo Park retreat center, where the internationally renowned Canadian sculptor Timothy Schmalz will announce his choice of Vallombrosa to house the Twelfth Station of the Cross: the Crucifixion. Hear the sculptor talk about continuing the Catholic tradition of epic bronze sculpture. Visit the site of what will become an international site of pilgrimage. Hospitality and fellowship will follow so you can meet the artist and your fellow art-lovers. Registration is free (above), although we ask for a donation of $25 from those who can reasonably afford it. Patrons of the arts have already contributed the
$1 million plus in funds for the sculpture itself and its transportation from Canada. Vallombrosa is seeking help with the cost of preparing the site installation.

The Order of Malta Clinic of Northern California serves those without health insurance, we provide free medical care, including labs to the working poor, adults who would otherwise delay necessary healthcare. This year's proceeds will help fund expanding the Clinic from its current 1700 square feet to 4,100 square feet, allowing us to serve up to 12,000 patient visits per year at a cost of $163 versus $1,400 in a typical ER visit.

The Associate Director for Faith Formation & Hispanic Catechesis supports the Director of Faith Formation by assisting in the facilitation of the catechetical programs and provides leadership to assist parish or deaneries in building a solid foundation for Hispanic faith growth. This candidate will be capable of working within the Archdiocese in a parish-based manner, starting new youth and young adult ministry units and strengthening the existing ones. The candidate has to work harmoniously and cheerfully with pastors, deans, colleagues, and supervisors.
This candidate will be able not only to get along with the youth and young adults but also be able to motivate and inspire them toward faith, friendships, service, community, stewardship, and a joyful involvement in the life of the parish, the Word of God, and the liturgical celebrations.
The candidate will be available for meetings and events in the evenings and on weekends.

Catholic Charities’ Center for Immigration Legal & Support Services (CILSS) is now hiring bilingual (English/Spanish) Immigration Social Services Case Managers at our offices in San Mateo and San Francisco to help vulnerable newcomers who have been granted asylum under the Trafficking and Crime Victims Assistance Programs. The Case Manager establishes trust and builds a relationship with each client while identifying their needs; and assists them in applying for eligible legal and social benefits. Case Managers accompany clients to their immigration court appearance as needed to provide support.

For the feast day celebrating the Assumption of Mary, the Church of the Assumption of Mary in Tomales invites you to celebrate their Parish feast day. The event begins at 9:30 am when you can purchase breakfast food. At 11:45 am there will be a religious procession from downtown Tomales to the Church, where Solemn Mass will begin at 12:30 pm. The fiesta will begin following the Mass and will feature food, drinks, rides for children, as well as a raffle. Come enjoy delicious food, music, camaraderie, and help support the Parish!
