ST BERNADETTE RELIC TOUR
The Relics of St Bernadette will be journeying to the UK for the first time this Autumn visiting 51 venues across England, Scotland and Wales, offering a special opportunity for people of all ages and backgrounds to experience the special gifts and charisms of Lourdes. The sacred Relics will visit three venues in our Diocese during the tour including St Dunstan’s on October 21st and 22nd. FIRST RECONCILIATION AND HOLY COMMUNION 2023
If you have a child (or children) who you believe may be ready to prepare to celebrate their First Reconciliation and Holy Communion next year, 2023, then please make a note of the date Monday 12th September in your diary now. There will be an essential meeting that evening – either live or via Zoom, depending on circumstances – at which we will explain to parents in detail how the course will be run. Children must be in Year 3 or above at school.
Before you can register your child for preparation for Reconciliation and Holy Communion you will have to join a short preparation course for Parents. Registration for children will only take place after you have completed the Parents’ Course.
Registration for the Parents’ Course does not have to be completed until 19th September, but if you want to register now you can click on the link for the form and return it to the Parish Office, either electronically or a hard copy.

REFRESHMENTS AFTER THE SUNDAY 5.30 pm MASS
Refreshments will be served after the 5.30 pm Mass next Sunday, August 21st. We welcome everyone to join us for a cup of tea or coffee, cake and some fellowship.

READINGS FOR SUNDAY 14th AUGUST.
The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Apocalypse 11:19, 12:1-6, 10. This reading is full of symbolism and imagery that might not speak as powerfully today as when it was first written and read. But in this graphic depiction there is an extraordinary message of hope: the followers of Jesus will suffer, but evil will not triumph!
Psalm 44:10-12,16. On your right stands the queen, in garments of gold.
1 Corinthians 15:20-26. An extract from Paul’s theology of Christ as the New Adam. Christ reverses the consequences of Adam’s sin and brings to fulfilment God’s plan in creating Adam: ‘Death came through one man and in the same way the resurrection of the dead has come through one man.’ All are destined to share in Christ’s victory over death – this is our Christian hope, and Mary is our sign.
Luke 1:39-56. The story of the Visitation requires us to stretch our powers of interpretation to make the link with the Assumption. Luke describes the joy that characterises the encounter of these two pregnant women, their solidarity with one another, and how each is a sign to the other of God’s fidelity to his promise of salvation for his people. Of course we can echo today Elizabeth’s greeting: ‘Of all women you are the most blessed’. But perhaps we can also see in these two pregnant women an image of ourselves today, the followers of Christ pregnant with the Good News of Christ’s victory over death, called to set out with haste to bring that news to others and to share the joy of that hope.

Grandparents Formation Day – Wednesday 14th September
We are looking forward to welcoming you at the St Philip Howard Centre in Crawley for our annual day for Grandparents to hear from a member of the Sycamore team on the importance of Grandparents in handing on the faith. EXTERNALLY RUN DIOCESAN EVENTS AT WORTH ABBEY:
Benedictine individually guided retreat 26th-30th October
Cost: £110 per person, per night (min 3 nights). An opportunity to participate in a contemplative retreat, to share in community and to follow the monastic office. The retreat would suit someone seriously journeying in the spiritual life or someone in discernment, at a transition point in life or needing to make an important decision. The experience will include a daily individual meeting with a prayer / spiritual guide. There will be a balance of silence and engagement with an optional daily group Lectio Divina session and one conversational meal a day.
St Bernadette: 21st-23rd October
Cost: £330 per person, single occupancy. In September and October, the relics of St Bernadette will be visiting Worth on pilgrimage. This is a very special once in a lifetime event that will provide an opportunity for people, of all ages and backgrounds, to experience the special gifts and charisms of Lourdes. The Art Cafe, Byfleet Community Centre is looking for a chef for 30 hours (8.00 am-2.00 pm Monday-Friday) starting 5th September to provide fresh, nutritious meals to the elderly customers that visit the centre.
