A note from our Pastor:
We are confronted with difficult readings today in our reading from Jeremiah & the Gospel. Jeremiah is thrown in a muddy well and gets stuck & Jesus tells us that he is not here to being peace, but to ‘set the earth on fire.!” But hidden there right in the middle is the Psalm response, (a cry for help) and the reading from Hebrews to bring us hope so that we can persevere in living our faith especially in times when doing that is difficult.
The reading from Hebrews begins by reminding us of all the Communion of Saints – “so great a cloud of witnesses.” I love that image. So many examples for us to follow; so many intercessors praying for us. The reading goes on to exhort us to persevere in our faith – to continue to go out into the world each day and imitate Christ. The author acknowledges that this won’t be easy, but that with our eyes on Christ we can follow where he leads. Knowing that whatever we face in our lives – in our attempts to follow him by emulating him – He has faced those trials & tribulations (and much worse) and triumphed. Just as Christ was with Jeremiah as he was stuck in the mud at the bottom of a well, he is with us as we face the joys & sorrows of our lives. May we always be aware of His love and find ways to share that love with all people.
Peace & God Bless!
Father Rob
