"STORM AT SEA: Catholic Wisdom in Our Uncivil War." Thursday 25, 2022
at ISLC
6:30pm - 8:00pm
Well known and beloved Social Ethicist Bill O’Neil, SJ, will speak this year on the many factors that have led to such deep polarization in the nation and the politics of rage and recrimination, which then in turn played a role in recent Supreme Court decisions. The evening will include lively discussion after the talk over snacks and drinks. Professor Emeritus of the Jesuit School of Theology at SCU, O’Neil spent the last two years as a chaplain at the Kakuma Refugee-Camp in North-East Keyna and while being there he finished two new books: “Reimagining Human Right:. Religion and the Common Good” published by Georgetown University Press. Catholic Social Teaching - A User’s Guide published by Orbis books.
Note:
The event is free to the public. However, if you are able to give a donation for the evening, it would be most appreciated. All proceedings from this event will go back with Bill O’Neil, SJ to the Jesuit Refugee Service in the Kakuma refugee camp in Kenia.
THEOLOGICAL REFLECTION GROUPS/GRUPOS DE REFLEXION TEOLOGICA
August 28 12:00 noon - 1:15 pm
How has the pandemic impacted your faith
and experience of the Church?
Dr. Julia D.E. Prinz, VDMF (ISLC) and Dr. Erin Brigham (USF)
invite you to participate in the next steps of the research project:
“Belief and Belonging after the Pandemic: The Impact of COVID-19 on Experiences and Theological Interpretations
of the Church.”
You might be interested in the article that was written as a preliminary evaluation of the research so far. Copies are available at the ISLC table at the back of the Church. From January to March we held a survey at St Agnes and from April to May we led interviews. Now we are following up with the promised theological reflection groups.
Why participate?
- Theological reflection helps us to connect experience, faith, and action.
- It is our experience that leads us to formulate our theological understanding and our theological understanding informs our praxis as Church.
- Theology is for everyone not just church leaders or academics.
ALL are welcome:

Wondering what happened with the Synodal Process that ISLC, USF, the SI Preparatory and the chaplaincy at Saint Quentin summarized together?
GOOD NEWS: the USCCB received our document and has confirmed that it will be taken into account in the compilation of the documents. The same is also true for the Secretariat in Rome. We received official confirmation that our document will be taken into account.
Hoping that Pope Francis's attempt of this synodal journey might continued to be blessed, if anybody is interested in reading our synopsis, drop by the parish office, there are a couple of printed copies to read.
