We have all heard about the three types of giving - Time, Treasure, and Talent.
1. Time - Giving of our time and volunteering
2. Treasure –Tithing our money to support our church
3. Talent – The giving of our God given gifts and unique ability to help spread God’s message and word. They are not mutually exclusive. In fact, it takes all three to truly give back fully. Think of them as the legs of a stool – a three-legged stool if you will. If you remove one of its legs, it will not stand.
As we continue to lead our parish out from the isolation and separation from the last three years, we seem to be missing some legs of the stool.
Time
We are missing volunteers within all the aspects of our parish ministries. As the requests go out, we are falling short in the answer. It seems like it is always the same core group that answers the call. Ask yourself this simple question: How many, if any, ministries do I actively participate in? If your answer is none, we challenge you to find something that motivates you and get involved. Giving of our time is more than an hour a week attending Mass. The more you give – the more you will receive in return.
Treasure
Remember the parable of the poor widow who gave two small copper coins? (Matt. 12: 41-44) Jesus teaches the disciples that the woman gave more than the rich. The poor woman, as a widow, would have had no source of income after her husband's death. The two small copper coins were all she had - and yet she offered them to God. What the woman gave showed her faith and trust in the Lord by giving all she had. Does your giving reflect your faith and trust in the Lord?
Talent
What do you have a passion for? How can you bring your passions to the community to help it grow and thrive? We are all gifted with a unique ability from our God. It is an honor and demonstration of respect to Him to use our talents for the good of our parish and community. We need your talents to continue to make our parish a vibrant and growing community.
So, with this, we challenge everyone to think of Time, Treasure, and Talents as the legs of a three-legged stool – we need all of them to make it strong and stand. Can your stool stand on its own? That is the question you need to ask yourself.
We are looking forward to many new programs, outreach and ministries Blessed Sacrament will be offering this fall. Our parish continues to grow and thrive in this post-pandemic world but we need you and your Time, Treasure and Talents.
