Our Gospel Weeklies curriculum doesn't start until Sept 18/19.
Sunday (9:30 & 4) catechists can use this time to get to know your parents and students, play games, take a tour, etc.
Monday catechists (5 & 6pm) can do the same but also go ahead and use the following weekend's (9/18) upcoming Gospel lesson and activities using the Gospel Weekly.
Ideas for first day include:
- set up the prayer table with items you may have brought from home, recite the prayer(s) that they should know by the end of the year (Catholic Prayer book has a sticker in the back with what those prayers should be - make a contest out of them memorizing it?)
- make name cards for kids
- play icebreaker games
- show them where the bathroom is
- use the activity book in the workroom and make copies of something that would be fun to do
- go ahead and share the gospel for the weekend. Children's bibles are available in the workroom if you'd like to read from there. The 24th Sunday in Ordinary Time is about the prodigal son......great lesson there! https://bible.usccb.org/bible/readings/091122.cfm
