Covering Crosses and Images in Lent
On the fifth Sunday of Lent, you will notice the custom of covering sacred images, statues, and crucifixes in our church. You may wonder why we do this. This veiling helps us to focus on the essentials of the Christian faith, i.e. the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus, and to prepare to celebrate this Paschal Mystery with greater intensity. Just as we deny ourselves, take up our cross, and follow Christ by performing voluntary acts of penance during the Lenten season, so in these days at the end of Lent we deny our senses, particularly the sense of sight from seeing the beautiful things of the church. This is similar to fasting for one hour before receiving Holy Communion. Our Eucharistic fast helps us to hunger for the living Bread that is the Body of Christ. Fasting with our sense of sight helps us to hunger for that which is truly beautiful, the vision of God when we will see Him face-to-face and is made possible by Christ’s glorious Resurrection.

Story Time
Get ready to enjoy story time offered by the Christ the King Library. This story time will be on Wednesday, March 28th from 3:00-3:30 pm. There will be a book about birds, a song about them, and we will be stringing cranberries and popcorn to leave for the birds as a snack. Quilt Bingo Success
You did it again! Another successful Quilt Bingo. The Good Lord gave us decent weather, cooks made more food and we still ran out! The quilts were very bright and colorful. A special THANKS to Greg and Teresa Limon for their many years making the tacos as they retire this year. Thank you to our police officer, Chris Robinson, for going above and beyond. The large crowd was very pleasant and polite. Yes, we are already working on quilts for 2019, so mark you calendars. Next year’s quilt bingo will be on March 3, 2019. We’ll look forward to seeing you there!
