These grants of $1,000 can support the work of those fighting food insecurity in our local communities. Organizations must be located in the Archdiocese of San Francisco. Applications are due by October 14, 2022.
The grants are funded by the Catholic Relief Services Rice Bowl project, which takes place each year during Lent. Thank you to all who have participated and made this program possible.

New - Restorative Justice Christmas Angels Project

The Restorative Justice Christmas Angels program is designed to support children affected by homicide, children with a parent in prison, and children affected by domestic violence. With your support, we can bring extra joy into their lives during the Christmas season.
Families in need can apply between September 15 and November 15, 2022, to receive gifts on December 22, 2022.
In addition, support is needed to make this program possible. Parishes, congregations, schools, non-profit organizations, businesses, and other groups are invited to hold a gift card drive. Individuals can also adopt a child through monetary donations. Finally, we need volunteers to help at the family Christmas celebration on December 22. For full details, visit the website above.

This September, we began praying a monthly Eucharistic Holy Hour at the Cathedral, “our mother church,” to pray intentionally and consistently for an increase and strengthening of vocations to the priesthood in the Archdiocese. All are welcomed to attend these Eucharistic Holy Hours in response to Jesus’ invitation to “ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest” (Mt 9:38).

This has resulted in the tragic loss of many lives among our faithful and among our communities. It has also resulted in devastating grief for the loved ones mourning those losses. Please, contact the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline if you are experiencing mental health-related distress or are worried about a loved one who may need crisis support.

We are back! What a turnout we had at the 2nd BWYAM in San Francisco! Around 200 young people were gathered in Liturgy within the candle lit walls of the church. Join us next for our 3rd Bay Wide Young Adult Mass in September! This time we are in the South Bay. Young adults from all over the Bay will plan to gather for a candlelight Mass at the historical Mission San Jose in Fremont at 7:30 p.m. This year celebrates its 225th year since being founded. Furthermore, we are blessed to have Bishop Barber of the Diocese of Oakland celebrate the Mass for us. Afterward, we will gather for a night of fellowship to meet new faces, reconnect with familiar friends, and create lasting relationships between other young adult Catholics. Having been entrusted a leadership role in the Archdiocese of San Francisco, the Filipino clergy and the laity have reached a milestone with our strong visible presence. The Filipino Ministry has announced its first archdiocesan celebration honoring St. Lorenzo Ruiz, the first Filipino saint, at the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption on Saturday, September 24, at 10 a.m. The Eucharistic celebration will be presided by Fr. Jerald Geronimo, the first Filipino American to be educated and ordained as a Catholic priest in the Archdiocese of San Francisco since the church’s founding in 1853. Fellowship and reception will immediately follow after the Mass.

Due to the requirement of some (arch)diocese, it is sometimes necessary to send a Letter of Suitability for Lay Ministry/Event Outside the Archdiocese of San Francisco (ADSF) to ensure the person is in compliance in the Archdiocese and has up-to-date VIRTUS training and fingerprinting. The ADSF, therefore, has put online (above) a form to request a Letter of Suitability for Lay Ministers. The request must be submitted at least two weeks before the event they will be attending. Once completed and submitted with all necessary information and forms, it will go to Karen McLaughlin who will prepare the letter and have it signed by the Archbishop or Chancellor.
