We had another busy week and it flew by so fast!! We are having so much fun with this class and we are loving getting to know them.
Our week started off with the color Red. Before we read the book “Red: Seeing Red All Around Us”, we made a list of everything we could think of that is red. They came up with this list: Shirt, Fire Truck, Marker, Apples, Bucket, Chairs, Box, Cup, Roses and Eyes.
On Tuesday we had two Library times. Ms. Shelley came to our classroom and read two books to us. Then Ms. Jo from the Washington Public Library joined us and read a book about cats. Then we sang some songs and played with scarves. Of course we did the popular Popcorn song!
Wednesday was a very busy day and the students were awesome throughout it all. We had a practice Tornado Drill with just our class and then we did it with the whole school. We practiced with just our class first so we could learn the process before other classes joined us. We also had a practice Intruder Drill. We explained that there is something that is not safe outside so we were in our classroom closet together to stay safe. Our day ended with our 5th Grade Reading Buddies doing an All About Me project with us. Each student in both PreK & 5th grade decorated a paper cut out of a person to reflect themselves. They were all very creative!
We ended our week with the book Clifford's Apple-Picking Day. It was the perfect way to introduce Apples for next week! We also spent a lot of time outside enjoying the beautiful fall weather.
A couple things we are continuously working on at school:
Having patience with our friends while we wait our turn.
Blowing our noses rather than wiping it on our clothing and/or arms. With all of the new germs we have been sharing these last couple of weeks and allergies going crazy, we have a lot of snot.
Covering our mouths when we cough. Just like all of the snot, the coughing is inevitable. We encourage them to cover their mouths with the inside of their elbows.
Now that we are into fall weather, please send a jacket or sweatshirt with your child. Our playground can be very chilly and breezy. We try to spend as much time as possible outside while we can before the freezing cold arrives.
If you ordered a Homecoming flower from WHS, they were sent home in backpacks yesterday!
Next Week:
We will begin our study of Apples while still incorporating the color red. We will start with the outside; how they look, smell and feel from the outside.
I will be gone next week on Wednesday & Thursday so we will have substitute teacher working with Ms. Alayna. I have started talking to the students about it to prepare them for the change. They are an awesome group and I know they won’t even notice I’m gone. Ms. Alayna will be meeting you at the door those mornings.
