The Gospel this weekend for the 27th Sunday in Ordinary Time begins with a beautiful request and prayer from the apostles, "Lord, increase our faith." It is such a simple prayer but profound at the same time. It shows our humility before God and is an admission that we need God's grace in our lives. When we are at the point in our lives of discipleship when our prayer life is less than great and we feel like we aren't doing that great in our relationship with God, "Lord, increase our faith!"
I know you will join me in welcoming Fr. Raja Pilla to St. Mary's and Sacred Heart this weekend. I know some groan when a missionary comes to a parish but it is an important opportunity for us to show our solidarity with the broader Church. It gives us an opportunity to learn about the struggles and triumphs of our faith in other parts of the world and in a practical way, allows us to share our resources to spread the Gospel well beyond our parish boarders. Thank you in advance for your generosity to the second collection.
As you know, we have been collecting Mass counts every other month throughout 2022. I have included the data from September for your information. It is interesting that attendance declined from July when compared to September, especially since mid-summer is when attendance is usually lowest. I encourage everyone to make attendance at weekend Mass a priority. Listening to God's Word and receiving the Eucharist is the most important thing we can do in our faith life. As I have mentioned before, the diocese uses this data in the ongoing process of pastoral planning to make good decisions about personnel and resources.
Let's pray for good weather, safety in the fields, and a good harvest.
Fr. Lingle
