Dear Friends:
After being at the parish for a few months I have come to realize that there is no such thing as a magic bullet when it comes to evangelization or parish growth. If someone is selling a program that will solve all of our problems, it is probably like the proverbial snake oil remedies in the days of old. Nevertheless, while there is no magic bullet, it does seem like there are common themes which lead to a degree of success at the parish. Ultimately, everything which we do must be rooted in truth, beauty, or goodness. Humans seem to have an insatiable draw to these three things. Thus, as a parish, we should cultivate these. Beauty comes about from the way we celebrate the sacraments, the renovations which we have done to our churches or which we will do. Beauty is also seen in our approach to sacred music and vestments. All of these elements should bring forth a sacred and reverential beauty to everything which we do in the parish. Goodness can be brought about, primarily, by our own striving for holiness. The confessions which we make, the time which we spend in adoration, our prayer lives, our devotions, our penances, ur development and growth in the spiritual life. However, goodness is also cultivated by all of our parish ministries and outreaches. Finally, truth is cultivated by the way we preach and teach as priests, the way that parents form their children in the faith, our school, and our various religious education programs.
In my study of church history, I came to the conclusion that in the history of the world, no organization has done truth, beauty, and goodness as well as the Catholic Church. Yet, in recent years we have forgotten the importance of these. I think that any new evangelization and any reform in the Church will have to return to these fundamental things. I, as a priest, often ask myself what I am doing to cultivate truth, beauty, and goodness. I think you, as a parishioner, should ask yourself the same question. How are you cultivating truth, beauty, and goodness in your own life? If we root our ministries in these, we will see our parish flourish and grow. Ultimately, this is what we all desire.

There will be a server training session on Sunday, October 9 after the 7:30am and 9:30am Masses in the church. We are looking for individuals in grades 4th through adult. Servers are scheduled about 1 time a month depending on availability. Servers are also needed for special liturgies, funerals, weddings and other events. Please consider becoming a server.
